Lumen Christi’s Keegan Smith commits to CMU football

Lumen Christi offensive lineman Keegan Smith has committed to play in Mount Pleasant for Central Michigan University's football program. Lumen Christi's football program is coming off of their third straight state championship win. JTV Sports | June 25th, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Keegan Smith will become a Chippewa and play for Central Michigan University's football program, he announced via Twitter. New head coach Jim McElwain will benefit from his verbal commit to the program, as he will become a member of the 2020 recruiting class for the University. 57-year-old McElwain was 22-12 over parts of three seasons at Florida. He won 19 games and earned SEC Coach of the Year honors. At Colorado State, he turned the Rams into a 10-win program and second-place finisher in the Mountain West Conference. At Alabama he served as offensive coordinator and formed a relationship with CMU athletic director Michael Alford. he also coached at Michigan State from 2003 to 2005. He’ll be hoping to turn around a Chippewas football team that went a program-worst 1-11 in their 2018 campaign. MHSAA Changes to HS Football for 2020

JTV Sports | May 10th, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Jackson, Michigan– The Michigan High School Athletic Association is tweaking the high school football playoff system. Beginning in the fall of 2020, a team’s strength of schedule will be the main factor in whether a school is in or out of the 256-team playoff field. Schools will now be rewarded, even if they lose, for playing against a quality opponent. This format also will have predetermined divisions, meaning a school will no longer have to wait for the Sunday selection show following the games of Week 9 to know which division it will be in for the playoffs.  https://twitter.com/JTV_Sports/status/1126538501414096900 "The addition of seeding at the District level in basketball and soccer and multiple adjustments to the process used to select the playoff field for 11-player football were among the most notable actions taken by the Representative Council of the Michigan High School Athletic Association during its annual Spring Meeting, May 5-6 in Gaylord," said the beginning of the press release by the MHSAA. Lumen Christi, Montrose to Showdown

(Photo by, Ryan Kerwin) By, Gabriel Schray | JTV Sports | November 6th, 2018 Jackson, Michigan -- After a convincing 33-0 win, The Titans of Lumen Christi continue their march towards a state championship this Saturday, against Montrose. The Titans are hoping to record a perfect season and a three-peat. Lumen Christi running back Nick Thomas finished one of the great performances in Jackson area football history last Friday night, as he found his way into the endzone five separate times. Just below freezing temperatures didn’t hamper the running back, as he propelled 11-0 Lumen Christi to its’ third straight regional championship. Now they’ll face off with powerhouse Montrose in the State Semifinal on Saturday. The Titan’s defense recorded its’ third shutout this season, in a five touchdown win over the Blissfield Royals. Thomas was responsible for every score in the 33-0 win. Blissfield finishes its’ season 7-5, after a second district championship in as many seasons. The Royals were not a favorite to win in the first, or second round of the playoffs, and have backed in twice in a row.
