Torey Higgs signs with Siena Heights

Torey Higgs of Vandercook Lake High School has signed to play basketball at Siena Heights University in Adrian. Higgs will continue his basketball career and education while at the local University. Higgs earned multiple varsity letters while at Vandy.  JTV Sports | May 23rd, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Jackson, Michigan– Another Jackson Area Athlete has signed to play collegiate athletics. Torey Higgs of Vandercook Lake High School has signed to play basketball at Siena Heights University in Adrian. Higgs earned multiple varsity letters while at Vandy, and made huge contributions on the floor for the program. The Jayhawks finished their 2018-2019 campaign with an overall record of 11-10. Their season started hot however. Really hot. The team strung together a 6-1 record to open the year- with their only loss by a margin of a single bucket. Just one year ago the team only won a pair of games, going 2-19. Those days are long gone for Vandercook Lake’s varsity basketball team. This means a lot to the schools. Abi Wilcoxson Breaks All-Time Homer Record at Western High

This week, Western Panther Abi Wilcoxson broke the all-time home run record at Western High School. The achievement will also place her in the Michigan high school softball athletic association record book for career home runs. JTV Sports | May 22nd, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Jackson, Michigan– Abi Wilcoxson, a Junior at Western High School, has broken the softball program's all time home run record. In her last contest, she had 3 home runs, which puts her at 28 total in her career.  Head Coach Tonya Basset has been leading the Panthers since 2003. During her 16 year career she has been assisted by coach Donna Farmer while amassing more than 320 wins. She has seen three Panthers earn their way into the MHSAA record books for hitting. The first Panther in the MHSAA record books for career home runs was Madison Cooper. Cooper played from 2010 - 2013 and held the western high school career home run record with 24. This record held up until last season when Taylor Nichols finished her career with 26 home runs. She is now also in the MHSAA record books. Julia Lefere signs with Lawrence Tech

Julia Lefere has signed with Lawrence Tech. Julia will continue her golf career while at Lawrence Tech. Julia earned 4 varsity letters and competed in multiple State Finals at Northwest.  JTV Sports | May 21st, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Jackson, Michigan– Another pair of Jackson Area Athlete signings have been announced. Both of the Northwest Community School's athletes and their signings were announced yesterday. Senior Julia Lefere signed to continue her academic and athletic career at Lawrence Tech. Julia will continue to golf in college. Julia earned 4 varsity letters and competed in multiple State Finals while golfing at Northwest. Julia was also a 4 year soccer player for the Mounties soccer program.  Lawrence Technological University, frequently referred to as Lawrence Tech, is a private university in Southfield, Michigan. Jadin White signs with Concordia University

Jadin White has signed with Concordia University of Ann Arbor. Jadin will continue his football career while at Concordia. Jadin had a highly successful playing career in football at Northwest.  JTV Sports | May 21st, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Jackson, Michigan– Another pair of Jackson Area Athlete signings have been announced. Both of the Northwest Community School's athletes and their signings were announced yesterday. Senior Jadin White signed today to continue his academic and athletic career with Concordia in Ann Arbor. Jadin will be joining the Concordia football program. Concordia University of Ann Arbor is a private liberal arts university. Its 187-acre campus sits on the banks of the Huron River, about ten minutes outside downtown Ann Arbor. Concordia had an incredible season last year. They made it to the NAIA Football Championship Series Quarterfinal Round, where they fell 58-34 to Benedictine College. MHSAA Changes to Soccer, Basketball and More for 2019-2020

JTV Sports | May 10th, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Jackson, Michigan– The Michigan High School Athletic Association is tweaking the basketball playoff system following their May 5th and 6th meeting. Several changes are being made at the district level. Beginning with the 2019-20 school year, girls and boys basketball and soccer will employ a seeding process to place the top two teams in every District on opposite sides of that bracket, guaranteeing those two teams could not play each other before the District championship game. The district pairings will be set two weeks before the postseason begins. Teams not seeded first or second will be randomly placed in the district bracket. "The addition of seeding at the District level in basketball and soccer and multiple adjustments to the process used to select the playoff field for 11-player football were among the most notable actions taken by the Representative Council of the Michigan High School Athletic Association during its annual Spring Meeting, May 5-6 in Gaylord," said the beginning of the press release by the MHSAA.
