Grass Lake Softball Wins Pre-District Over Onsted 10-5

The Grass Lake Warriors Softball team won their pre-district contest against Onsted 10-5. After defeating the Wildcats, the Warriors now advance to district play at noon on Saturday against Manchester. JTV Sports | May 30th, 2019 | Gabriel Schray The Grass Lake Softball team won their pre-district contest against Onsted 10-5.  An early lead gave the Warriors the momentum that they needed for a victory. Kaysey Cook was on the mound for the Warriors. She allowed 4 hits, 5 runs and struck out 10 while only walking 1, per grasslakewarriors.com. Offensively, the Warriors dominated the game with a total of 10 hits including back-to-back home runs by Dana Peterson (3 runs) and Chance Macomber (solo) in the second inning. Macomber lead the offense by going 4-for-4 in the game. After defeating the Wildcats, the Warriors now advance to district play at noon this Saturday (June 1st) against Manchester. Abi Wilcoxson Breaks All-Time Homer Record at Western High

This week, Western Panther Abi Wilcoxson broke the all-time home run record at Western High School. The achievement will also place her in the Michigan high school softball athletic association record book for career home runs. JTV Sports | May 22nd, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Jackson, Michigan– Abi Wilcoxson, a Junior at Western High School, has broken the softball program's all time home run record. In her last contest, she had 3 home runs, which puts her at 28 total in her career.  Head Coach Tonya Basset has been leading the Panthers since 2003. During her 16 year career she has been assisted by coach Donna Farmer while amassing more than 320 wins. She has seen three Panthers earn their way into the MHSAA record books for hitting. The first Panther in the MHSAA record books for career home runs was Madison Cooper. Cooper played from 2010 - 2013 and held the western high school career home run record with 24. This record held up until last season when Taylor Nichols finished her career with 26 home runs. She is now also in the MHSAA record books.
