Tecumseh Survives Late Over Golden Eagles

(2-26-2024, 7:20PM): It was close the whole way through and ultimately, the Indians of Tecumseh defeated Columbia Central to open up the district round of the playoffs on Monday night at Western High School.

The game was tied at 10-10 with 3:20 left in the opening quarter, with both teams quickly trading buckets. Columbia Central took a one point 13-12 lead to end the opening quarter. Derek Sanders scored five to begin and Andrew Hosmer added four for the Golden Eagles.

Tecumseh opened up the second quarter with the first five points, gaining the largest lead of the night. Columbia responded with the next five points from Logan Fowler and Conner Cole. After outscoring the Golden Eagles 17-12 in the second, the Indians led 29-25 at the half.

Columbia Central came out of the locker room scoring eight of the first ten points to begin the second half. Tecumseh answered with three different players scoring to tie it at 37-37 to end the third quarter. Derek Sanders scored 10 through three quarters for CC and Nolan Schiel added eight.

Ryan Barrie opened the final quarter scoring five points for Tecumseh. Connor Cole and Jack Gorton each responded with a basket for the Eagles to make it a 41-39 ball game with 4:30 to play.

Tecumseh scored on back-to-back possessions to take a 46-43 lead with :55 seconds in regulation. Andrew Hosmer responded for two to make it 46-45 with :39 left. The Indians were able to pull out four late free throws to come away with a 50-45 win over the Golden Eagles.

Derek Sanders and Logan Schiel each scored 10 for Columbia Central. Ryan Barrie led Tecumseh with 19 points and Ryan Mossburg added 17. Tecumseh will take on rival Adrian on Wednesday night at 5:30pm at Western High School.
