One attendee of the Jackson Area Polish Heritage Festival said he waited in line for 90 minutes to get golumbkis and a polish sausage.

He wasn’t disappointed.

The festival kicked off Saturday with a Polka Mass presented by Celebrant Fr. Louis Madey with music by Dyna Brass.

Food at the annual event was organized by volunteers at St. Joseph and St. Johns.

Organizer Jacki Staudacher told Bart Hawley earlier in the week that volunteers spent “three days making golumbkis for the annual event.”

Music was provided by Dyna Brass and Randy Wrozek and the Hy-Notes at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 705 N. Waterloo St., Jackson.

A huge tent provided a large dance floor for those interested in Polkas. Both young and old enjoyed the constant entertainment provided by the two bands.

The event features food, beer, entertainment, crafts, children’s games, and numerous raffles.

The festival continues Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. There is no admission charge for the event.
