Three Cougars earn Crossroads League Player of the Week honors

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Three Spring Arbor University student-athletes earned Crossroads League Player of the Week recognition for their performances last week, the league office announced Monday.

 

 

Paul Marandet – Men’s Basketball

The Crossroads League has named Spring Arbor University sophomore Paul Marandet the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

 

Marandet averaged 18.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game last week to lead Spring Arbor to three wins, including one over No. 1 Cornerstone University. In the game against Cornerstone, Marandet scored a team-high 20 points with six assists and six boards while also coming up with three steals. He also had his first career double-double against Aquinas College a day earlier with 17 points and a career-high 10 assists.

 

The sophomore from Warsaw, Indiana currently leads the NAIA in assists with 23.

 

Spring Arbor (3-0) will host the University of Michigan-Dearborn (2-1) on Wednesday, Nov. 1 starting at 7:30 p.m.

 

 

Janum Sailor – Men’s Soccer

Spring Arbor University junior Janum Sailor has been named the Crossroads League Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after recording one goal and two assists in wins over Bethel College and Marian University last week.

 

Sailor assisted two goals in SAU’s league championship-clinching win over the Bethel College Pilots and found the back of the net in a 3-0 win against Marian. On the season, the junior from Indianapolis, Indiana has tallied seven goals and two assists.

 

The No. 21 ranked Cougars (15-3-0) host the quarterfinal match of the Crossroads League Tournament against Taylor University (6-7-3) on Wednesday, Nov. 1 starting at 8 p.m.

 

 

Bethany Balcer – Women’s Soccer

Spring Arbor University junior Bethany Balcer has been named the Crossroads League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for her performances against Bethel College and Marian University last week.

 

Balcer scored four goals in 55 minutes of action in Spring Arbor’s 8-0 win over Bethel. She also added one assist in the game as SAU clinched its seventh straight regular season league title. The junior from Hudsonville, Michigan, has 26 goals this season, which leads the league and ranks sixth in the NAIA.

 

No. 2 ranked Spring Arbor (16-1-0, 8-0-1 CL) hosts the first round of the Crossroads League Tournament against Bethel (4-12-2) on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
