(March 7, 2022 7:50 AM) Three girls’ basketball teams will be looking for success at regional tournaments this week.
But only two have the opportunity to win and move on in Michigan High School Athletic Association regional basketball play.
Columbia Central (17-4) will face Grass Lake (16-5) in the Division 3 regional semifinal at Hudson Tuesday. The two teams battled in a Division 3 quarterfinal game a year ago with the Warriors moving on to win a state title.
On the other side of the bracket is Leslie 20-2 or Dansville (15-7). Their game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at HHS and the CCHS/GLHS game at approximately 7 p.m.
The regional final is scheduled on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Hudson.
The winner of the region will face the winner of the Ecorse regional in the quarterfinal round at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 14, at Concord High School.
Western High School looks to advance in the Division 1 tournament at Mattawan. The Panthers will face a familiar foe in East Lansing – a team Western defeated 44-43 in early December.
Western (21-1) and East Lansing (17-4) will face off on Tuesday at Mattawan at approximately 7 p.m. The other half of the bracket includes Battle Creek Lakeview (20-1) and Mattawan (13-8) at 5:30 p.m.
The regional final is scheduled on Thursday at Mattawan beginning at 7 p.m.
The regional winner from Mattawan will face the winner from Byron Center at Calvin University in Grand Rapids on Monday, March 14, at 7 p.m.
