(May 28, 2024 9:14 PM ET) Jackson will be well represented at the Michigan High School Athletic Association state golf finals.
Lumen Christi Catholic High School, Northwest, and Jackson Christian high schools qualified as teams during regional play Tuesday.
The top three teams at each regional and top three individuals – not on qualifying teams – advance to the finals.
Northwest finished third at the D-2 regional at Bedford Valley Golf Course near Battle Creek, Lumen Christi won the D-3 regional at Cascades Golf Course in Jackson, and Jackson Christian was third at Calderone Golf Club near Grass Lake.
Four individuals also qualified for the state finals in 10 days at various locations.
Here are the results from Tuesday’s regional competitions involving Jackson County schools.
Boys Golf Regionals
D-2 at Bedford Valley Golf Course: Northwest High School finished third advancing to the D-2 state meet June 7, 8 at Forest Akers West on the campus of Michigan State University. The Mounties finished with a four-man total of 311 at Bedford Valley Golf Course near Battle Creek. Northwest was led by Jake Brafford with a 73, Cody Rowe shot a 75, J.J. Miller carded a 79, and Ryan Stevens an 84. Western High School finished fourth at 322. Freshman Andrew Boldt was an individual state qualifier for the Panthers with a 77. Hayden Kim finishes with a 79, Eric Bonser shot 80, and Gibson French carded an 86 for Western. For complete results click here.
Division 3 at HawksHead Golf Course: Springport finished sixth as a team in the Division 3 events near South Haven with a 386. Freshman Brody Baum is an individual qualifier after shooting an 87 to lead the Spartans. Brayden Hawes shot a 95, Maximillian Argumendo finished with 97, and Gibson Overweg carded a 107. Baum will participated in the D-3 final at Katke Course on the campus of Ferris State University. For complete results click here.
D-3 at Cascades Golf Course: Lumen Christi Catholic High School won the regional title with a 316 at Cascades Golf Course Tuesday. Michigan Center finished fourth (355), Hanover-Horton and Columbia Central tied for seventh (359), Napoleon placed 16th (385), and Grass Lake was 17th (390). The Titans were led by freshman Brandon Kulka with a 77 – finishing second individually, Anthony Kulka was third individually with a 78, Charlie Sanders finished fifth overall with an 80, and Jack Swihart was sixth overall with an 81. Hayden Carter of Columbia Central is a state individual qualifier with an 82 and Hoyt Wrona of Hanover-Horton is also a state individual qualifier with an 82. Lumen Christi and the two individual qualifiers will play at the state final at the Katke Course June 7, 8 near the campus of Ferris State University. For complete results click here.
D-4 at Calderone Golf Club: Jackson Chrisitan High School grabbed the third and final team qualifying spot with a team score of 357 at Calderone Golf Club. Vandercook Lake finished 14th (469) and East Jackson and Concord did not have four golfers to post a team score. The Royals used consistency to get to the state meet as Jonathan Locke and Anderson Jacobs shot 88s, Nate Locke finished with an 89, and Christian Guerrero carded a 92 for Jackson Christian. The Royals advance to the D-4 state finals June 7, 8, at The Meadows Golf Course near the campus of Grand Valley State University. For complete results of the D-4 regional click here.
