(October 7, 2020 6:50 PM) Michigan Center and Hanover-Horton high schools will advance to the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 state golf finals this week.
The Cardinals won the regional event on Wednesday with a four-man total of 381 at Cascades Golf Course. Lenawee Christian finished second (409) and Hanover-Horton was third (418).
Kamryn Shannon earned medalist honors with an 87 on a blustery day in Jackson. Baylee Carlisle finished with a 96 and Elly Trefry shot a 98.
Kassidy Alexander finished fourth individually for HHHS with a 95.
Onsted golfers Jaime Metzger (92) and Annika Berg (96) were individual qualifiers at the regional.
Grass Lake finished fifth as a team (461) as Elsa Miller shot a 106; Addison did not post a team score, but Chloee Daniels shot a 113; Columbia Central only had three golfers, led by Elizabeth Tyndall with a 106 and Lindsey Swank finished with 108; Faith Moore shot 113 for Concord; and Morgan LeFaive of Vandercook Lake was three shots outside of becoming an individual qualifier with a 99.
All qualifiers will compete in the MHSAA state golf finals on Saturday at Forest Akers West Golf Course near the campus of Michigan State University.
The tournament is only an 18-hole final due to COVID-19 restraints.
Division 2 at St. Johns: Jackson High School finished ninth as a team with a four-man total of 415. Natalie Kulka shot a 93 to lead the Vikings. Kara Clingerman shot a 92 for Northwest High School. Haslett won the regional with a 332, Okemos shot 344, and Fenton finished with 362 to gain the final team spot. It took 87 to qualify individually at this regional.
Division 3 at Calderone Golf Course: Scores in the MHSAA Division 3 regional at Calderone were not reported as of 6:30 p.m. The regional was hosted by Chelsea. Western High School was the only Jackson County school in the field.
Division 4 at Byron: Lumen Christi Catholic High School finished second at the Division 4 regional at Hunters Ridge Golf Course. The Titans shot a four-man total of 397. LCCHS was led by Ashley Hilderley who finished second overall with an 88 and Caitee Webster with a 95. Lansing Catholic won the regional with a 365 and Durand captured the final spot with a 404. East Jackson finished fourth with 409 and Napoleon was sixth at 462. EJHS golfer Rory Mericle earned a trip to the Michigan High School Athletic Association D-4 state finals with a 98. Samantha Doerr and Brynn Mericle both shot 100, but lost in a playoff for the final individual qualifying spot. The Titans and Rory Mericle will advance to the state finals on Saturday at Forest Akers West Golf Course near the campus of Michigan State University.
