(11-29-2024, 8:05PM): Head Coach Herb Brogan and the Lumen Christi Titans ended its dominant run in this 2024 campaign with a 14th state championship in program history, as LC took home a – victory over Lansing Catholic in Detroit on Friday.
Both sides of the ball were controlled early by the Titans, forcing a three-and-out on the first drive. Kadale Williams continued his historic season right away, scoring on a 36-yard TD run on just the second play of the game to make it 7-0.
Williams ran for 73 yards in the first five minutes of play, scoring again with 6:55 left in the 1st to make it a quick 14-0 Titans lead. Lansing Catholic QB Alex Fernandez put the Cougars on the board with 3:21 left in the opening quarter, on a keeper from two yards out to make it 14-6 LC. Lumen Christi led 21-6 after the first, as Josh DuMont also cashed in on a 39-yard pitch for a touchdown.
Issac Rehberg opened the second quarter with a two-yard rushing touchdown to make it a 28-6 lead for LCCHS. Charlie Saunders followed that up with a big sack on defense to give LC the football back. Kadale Williams scores on the first play of the next drive, this one from 76 yards out to make it a commanding 35-6 Titans lead. Lumen Christi led 42-12 at halftime.
Senior TE Logan Decker opened the second half scoring for the Titans, a 35-yard touchdown reception made it 49-12 LC. RB Kadale Williams broke the MHSAA record for most rushing yards in a state final on Friday, running for 314 yards.
Lumen Christi would go on to rout Lansing Catholic 56-18, to win its 14th football state championship in program history, now the most in MHSAA history. RB Kadale Williams finished with 314 yards for 5 touchdowns on 27 carries. Josh DuMont and Isaac Rehberg also scored for LCCHS. Amarion Clay led the Titans defense with 9 tackles. Williams finishes with 43 touchdowns and 2,605 yards for the 2024 season.
