Titans Football Believes Good is Not Enough

The Lumen Christi Catholic High School varsity football team came within one play of advancing to its fifth state finals in six years.

This year, being good is not enough according to the motto adopted by the Titans.

But the Titans will need to be great right off the bat with games against New Lothrop, St. Francis, Hastings, and Western.

“Last year was a good year, but we were dissatisfied with the finish,” longtime Coach Herb Brogan said. “It is a combination of frustration and motivation for this year.”

Key returning players for the Titans include Joe Lathers (quarterback), Derek Walker (running back), Connor Smith (end/defensive tackle), Devian Franklin (running back/linebacker), Cooper Cumberworth (guard), Charlie Konkle (guard), Aiden Pastoriza (tackle), Alex Pastoriza (defensive back), and Reid Garcia (defensive back).

“It’s a matter of how hard we work that will determine our season,” Lathers said. 

Newcomers who are expected to contribute are Conor Berkeypile (center), Gabe King (running back/defensive back), Pierce Avery (end/linebacker), Garrett Slider (defensive tackle), Luke Smith (tackle/defensive end), Britton Hampton (defensive back), Pierre Gray (end/linebacker), and Connor Dancer. 

The Titans expect to have nearly 30 on the varsity team and more than 30 on the junior varsity squad. Lumen Christi has earned a playoff spot every year since 1998.
