VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS) has several special events occurring the week of Veterans Day 2015 including the annual Veterans Day Ceremony with the University of Michigan ROTC, a visit from some Detroit Lions Alumni, a Former POW Support Group Luncheon, a special collaboration with Google that allows Veterans to virtually attend the NYC Veterans Day Parade, and Fall Memorial Service
When: Veterans Day Ceremony – Wednesday, November 11, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Speakers include U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell, U.S. Representative Tim Walberg, Lt. Col. Charles Kettles who was recently nominated for the Medal of Honor, and Keynote Speaker Major General Michael Lehnert (USMC, ret.) The event will be located in the VA Ann Arbor Medical Center Auditorium.
Service Above Self: Honoring Our Veterans – Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. Veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, will tell their stories on the stage of the University of Michigan’s Hill Auditorium. Detroit Lions Alumni Visit – Thursday, November 12, 2015, from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. Detroit Lions Alumni will be visiting with Veteran patients and will attend the Former POW event that starts at 1:30 p.m.
Google Headset Virtual Veterans Day Parade – Thursday, November 12, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Google will be set up in the facility to allow Veterans the opportunity to attend a virtual Veterans Day parade through the Google Headset technology.
Former POW Support Group – Thursday, November 12, 2015, from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Applebee’s will cater a Veterans Day luncheon for our Former POW Support Group at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 12. The Detroit Lions Alumni group will also attend this luncheon.
VAAAHS Fall Memorial Service – Saturday, November 14, 2015, from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Family and friends of Veterans who passed away between 1/01/15 and 6/30/15 are invited to attend our Fall Memorial Service. The event will be located in the VA Ann Arbor Medical Center Auditorium.
