Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 109 Flag Retirement Ceremony 6-14-23.  Photos by Sara Scaife, JTV.

The Jackson Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 109 held a Flag Retirement Ceremony on the evening of 2023 Flag Day at the Chapter House, 235 West Franklin, Jackson.

United States Federal Law provides that the Flag, when it is in such condition that is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

These flags have flown proudly over our community but are now worn beyond repair. The chapter’s Color Guard respectfully placed each flag in the fire so that each could burn fully.  The Color Guard escorted the worn flags to the fire, unfolded each and displayed to the gathered audience.

A tribute to the flag was read, followed by a prayer.  The ceremony concluded with a 21-gun salute.
