(August 24, 2022 3:19 PM) Jackson College Jets women’s volleyball missed both their 2020 and 2021 seasons, but new Coach Lisa Bradley looks forward to an all-new team and season with excitement.

“After two years without a volleyball program, 2022 will be a ‘come back’ year for the Jets,” Bradley said. “Our team has set the goal of finishing as one of the top two teams in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Reaching that goal will qualify us for Regionals.”

Bradley has recruited a wealth of local talent for the 2022 Jets squad.

  • Kenadee Tompkins, freshman and Columbia Central H.S. graduate, setter.
  • Kate Leach, freshman and Vandercook H.S. graduate, libero.
  • Kaycee Shannon, freshman and Michigan Center H.S. graduate, middle blocker/outside hitter.
  • Samantha Conaway, freshman and Napoleon H.S. graduate, outside hitter.
  • Bailey Vickery, freshman and Napoleon H.S. graduate, defensive specialist.
  • Kelsea Bradley, freshman and Napoleon H.S. graduate, right side hitter.
  • Brynn Harmon, freshman and Jonesville H.S. graduate, middle blocker.
  • Jasmine Carr, freshman and Grass Lake H.S. graduate, middle blocker/outside hitter.
  • Alyssa Dickerson, freshman and Western H.S. graduate, right side hitter.
  • Kate Gorney, freshman and Onsted H.S. graduate, outside hitter.

All the players have shown a strong work ethic in the pre-season practices. “I am excited to watch this team develop throughout the season,” Bradley said. “Their growth mindset, on and off the court, has been amazing! This group of athletes not only want to become a great volleyball team, but they want to build positive relationships on campus and in the Jackson community by volunteering their time.”

“We are off to a great ‘come back’ season and a lot of that is due to our team chemistry!”

The Jackson College Jets men’s soccer team looks forward to the new season with hopes for post-season play.

The team lost three key players, but welcome three key newcomers – Jayson Janofski, midfielder from Seminole, Fla., Ethan Zuke, midfielder and Western High graduate, and Aaron Kennedy, defender and transfer from Adrian College. Key returning players include Abdisa Kabeto, midfielder from Ypsilanti; Ian Maynard, defender and graduate of Western H.S.; Connor Poliquin, forward from Attleboro, Mass.; Jalyn Beecham, defender from Ypsilanti; and Kevin Lawson, forward from Ypsilanti.

Women’s soccer hopeful after challenging season

Jackson College Jets women’s soccer is looking for improvement this season after finishing fourth in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association last year.

“Last season we seemed to be right on the cusp of success, but injuries and misfortunes seemed to pop in at the wrong time,” said coach Andrew Hosmer. “A limited roster hampered our goal of winning a regional title and getting ‘over the top’.”

Returning from last season are forward Anna Hosmer from Columbia Central High School, who led the team in scoring, was an all-conference selection, and returns as captain again this season. Goalkeeper Mia Walker-Quintana from Coopersville High School is an elite-level goalkeeper who was sidelined for much of last season with an injury but has come back healthy and ready to anchor the defense. She is also a captain this season. Also returning are Tina Covic, defender from Haslett High School, also an all-conference selection last year and team captain this season, and Ella Moore, a holding midfielder from Jackson High School who garnered all conference honors last season and will be taking on a captain’s role this season.

The team welcomes 18 incoming freshmen who have contributed well to the program. “The atmosphere is one of optimism and camaraderie, and the ladies have been working hard and enjoying their time together,” Hosmer said.

“This season we have 25 players and more depth than we’ve had since this program began,” notes Hosmer, who has coached since the inception of the program in 2008. “The talent level is high; the key will be putting everything together correctly so that the players reach their potential as individuals and as a group. I expect us to be successful.”
