Professional Bowling Association member Brian Voss was introduced as a PBA Hall of Fame member, winner of more than two dozen PBA titles, and an infrequent bowler on the PBA60 Tour.

He bowled at Jax60 in the PBA60 David Small’s Jax60 National Championship with ulterior motives this past weekend.

Voss defeated Chesterfield Township, Mich., resident Harry Sullins 264-256 in the stepladder final Monday night to earn $8,000.

He has only won a couple of PBA50 or PBA60 tournaments.

“My son lives in Chelsea and it is only a 28-minute drive,” Voss said after the win. “It was great to spend some time with him.”

Voss was the No. 1 seed heading into the stepladder final. He averaged 237 pins for 30 games starting on Saturday.

Joining him in the stepladder format was Sullins, Jerry Sikora of Arizona, Ron Mohr of Las Vegas, and Mike Dias of Colorado.

Dias defeated Mohr in the first round, 211-200. Mohr made the stepladder format in both the PBA50 and PBA60 events at Jax60.

Sikora defeated Dias 227-190 in the second round. Dias earned fourth place in the tournament, earning $2,500.

Sullins edged Sikora 235-234 in the semifinal round. Sikora finished third for a check of $3,000.

Voss started the final against Sullins with eight consecutive strikes. An open in the ninth frame game Sullins and opening.

Sullins recovered from an open in the second frame with eight consecutive strikes. A nine-count in the 10th frame prevented him from having a chance to catch Voss.

Sullins earned $4,500 for his second-place finish in the PBA60 event.

Voss was stoic in the finals from his chair to the line. After that, he celebrated his strikes with fist pumps and a jog to the left.

“You have to do everything exactly the same every time,” Voss said of his demeanor heading to the line. “I have always had a set routine.”

Voss thanked audience members for their support of the tournament.

“I bowl for them,” Voss said. “It was a lot of fun.”

The tournament was dedicated to Mel Wolf who brought PBA bowlers to Jackson more than three decades ago. Wolf bowled in a number of PBA senior events over the years.

“We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Mel Wolf,” Jax60 General Manager Josh Solomon said.

Members of Wolf’s family were in the audience and joined Voss for the trophy presentation. 5
