Warriors Sweep Softball Doubleheader

4 different Warriors hit a home run between the two games on Friday night as Grass Lake took care of business against another elite Cascades softball team, winning both games.

The first game started out strong right away and the Lady Warriors didn’t look back. A home run by Katelyn Postuma and 6 other hits in the second innings made it 7-0 GL after 2 innings.

Hanover-Horton responded with a couple of runs in the bottom of the 3rd, making it 7-2. Grass Lake fired again with 4 different batters getting a hit in the 4th. That includes home runs from Emily Guthrie, a Taylor University commit, and Olivia Turner, a Bradley University commit, 9-2 GL after 4 innings.

Grass Lake separated themselves even more in the final inning, hitting it 7 times including 8 RBIs. RBIs included a 2-RBI triple from Guthrie, a 2-RBI single from Bree Salts, and a 3-RBI double from Rylee Fitzpatrick.

Grass Lake cruises to an 18-4 win in the first game.

Hanover Horton came out strong to start the second game, tying it at 1-1 at the top of the 2nd inning. Then, Grass Lake took control and again didn’t look back. A single from Alaina Brown, 2-RBI double from Emily Brown, and RBI double from Turner made it a 6-1 lead.

Hanover Horton struggled with the bats the rest of the way, but was led by Flint on the pitching as she struck out 3 batters in the next 2 innings. 

Grass Lake pulled away in the 4th inning, gaining 5 hits including another 3 home runs to make it 11-1.

Grass Lake wins 11-1 after a 5-inning mercy rule, improving to 9-0. Hanover Horton was led in pitching by Alexyn DuBois with 6 strikeouts in the first game, they fall to 9-3 on the season.
