WEEK 1 HS FOOTBALL SCORES

Western 20, Jackson 12: The Panthers took control of the clock late to seal the deal and start the year 1-0, they have now defeated Jackson in the opener for the second straight year. Brody Parrott was our JTV Tri-County Water ‘Player of the Game’. A full replay of the game will air at 1 & 7PM both Saturday and Sunday on JTV. Western travels to Paw Paw next week and Jackson travels to Chelsea.

Vandercook Lake 22, Laingsburg 20: The Jayhawks make a defensive stop late to start the season 1-0 with a road win. VCL opens conference play next week hosting Hanover Horton.

Michigan Center 55, Onsted 32: MC wins a shootout on the road to open the season 1-0. The Cardinals host Columbia Central next week to open conference play, the game will be live on JTV.

Manchester 42, Sand Creek 8: The Flying Dutch dominate on the road and start 1-0. Manchester hosts Addison next week, a reunion for HC Josh Lindeman facing his previous squad.

Columbia Central 67, Melvindale ABT 0: Columbia Central wasted little time establishing control Thursday night, racing out to a 54-0 halftime lead before defeating ABT, 67-0 in the season opener. Quarterback Sammy Truax completed 4 of 6 passes for 65 yards and three touchdowns. Columbia Central also found plenty of success on the ground, led by Bauston Pilaczynski, who carried three times for 82 yards and two touchdowns. The Golden Eagles’ defense was equally impressive, holding ABT scoreless while creating multiple turnovers. Liam McMurtry led Columbia Central with 13 tackles and recorded a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. One of those recoveries turned into an 80-yard defensive touchdown. The Golden Eagles travel to Michigan Center next Thursday.

Springport 35, Bronson 14: Springport dominates at home in the season opener and wins a key Big 8 battle. Easton Merrill scored two TDs to help lead the Spartans, Sophomore QB Rip Overweg threw for 76 yards and a TD. The Spartans are at Homer next Thursday.

Napoleon 46, Montague 35: Napoleon wins a huge non-conference game against a storied Montague program as they start the year 1-0. The Pirates travel to Grass Lake next week to open league play.

Hudson 56, Hanover Horton 6: In a battle between the D8 state runner-up and a D7 regional finalist, the Tigers were too much from the start and dominated the Comets on their home field. JJ Russ led HH with 45 rushing yards and Blake Cogan led the defense with 11 tackles. Hudson travels to Onsted next week and Hanover Horton visits Vandercook Lake.

Lumen Christi 39, Detroit Edison 21: The four-time defending state champ opens the year with a win over an exceptional Edison team. LC makes a long road trip to Columbus Harvest Prep in Ohio next Friday.

Leslie 57, Stockbridge 30: HC Tim McCann and the Blackhawks win the rivalry once again for an 8th straight season and start the year 1-0 in dominant high-scoring fashion. Joel Cranmore threw for a whopping 414 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Blackhawks. Braydin Johnson had 238 receiving yards with 4 TDs, and Patrick Friese led the defense with 8 tackles. Evan Killinger threw for 252 yards and 3 touchdowns for Stockbridge, and Aidan Bradley caught two TDs. Leslie hosts Jonesville next Thursday (9/3) and Stockbridge will play at Bronson in a Big 8 battle.

Jonesville 34, Hillsdale 28: John Milks rushed for 265 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead the Comets in the rivalry win, and Harper Griffiths led the defense with 9 tackles. Max Young also scored for the Comets. Jonesville travels to Leslie next week to begin conference play, and Hillsdale will have back-to-back road games with Ida and Adrian Madison.

Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 33, Northwest 30: QB Jonathan Osterberg scored two touchdowns and threw for 96 yards for the Mounties. Tobin Sheley led the defense with 9 tackles. Northwest will travel to Adrian, a future conference opponent, next Thursday.
