The City of Jackson has released an update on various construction projects underway.
In the past week, construction on Crescent Road, West Avenue and the Essex Heights neighborhood the contractor continued the task of trenching new replacement water main pipe into place on Crescent Road. By the end of the day tomorrow, they will have made it the end at Fourth Street. Next week, the new Crescent Road water main between West Avenue and Fourth Street will undergo a week of testing to ensure that it is free of both harmful bacteria and water wasting leaks. Once it has passed both of these tests, it will be connected to the City-wide distribution system and the process of connecting homes within the work zone to the new water main will commence.
Next week, while the new water main is being tested, the crew will work to replace the sanitary sewer on Crescent Road between Avondale and Fourth Street. This task is scheduled to take a week and a half to two weeks to complete. Sewer service to the homes within the work zone will NOT be interrupted while this task is in process.
In the past week, on the Edgewood Street construction project, the task of drilling new water main pipe on the east side of Edgewood between Forest and Ganson was completed. Next week, the contractor will trench new water main pipe across each of the side-street intersections. This work is expected to take all of next week. Once all pipe is in place, this section will undergo a week-long period of testing to ensure that it is free of leaks and safe to put into use.
While the drill work of the past week was in progress, the contractor disinfected the section of new main between Michigan and Forest. The first set of samples were collected earlier today. The second set will be collected tomorrow. Early next week, testing results will be available. If they show that the new main is free of harmful bacteria, it will be connected to the larger City-wide distribution system.
