Zeeland, Michigan– The Western Panthers had a record breaking, unbelievable season, but fell to a loaded Zeeland East team on Friday night.

The Chix ended Parma Western’s eight-game winning streak as the Panthers made their first playoff run in school history. They came into the contest 10-1 and finish the season with just two losses.

Joshua Fusco, who missed the second round of the playoffs, went off in Friday night’s Division 3 regional final. The senior running back missed the district final due to a knee injury. Fusco had three first half touchdowns.

Senior Quarterback Tyler Pape was electric rushing the ball, and added a long passing touchdown to Nate Burk- but those three scores didn’t come until after a running clock had been established and it was much too late for Western to mount a comeback.

The Chix easily handled Parma Western 50-24 and claimed their first regional title in 29 years. Zeeland last won a regional title in 1989. Parma put together several promising drives, but couldn’t convert on key 3rd and 4th downs, or score once in position to do so. This allowed Zeeland East to build a huge 42-0 lead.

Zeeland East advances to next Saturday’s state semifinals at Grand Haven High School against defending state champ Muskegon. Muskegon defeated Cedar Springs 34-18 on Friday.

Tyler Pape needed to throw the ball to win, and got about all of the support Dave Misfud and his coaching staff could have asked for. The Panther’s offense and defense appeared to execute plays perfectly to instruction, but were just outmatched physically.

Chix quarterback Gabe Taylor added a pair of rushing touchdowns, to give Zeeland East the lead they would never lose. Zeeland East improved to 11-1 overall and has now won eight games in a row.
