(5-4-2026, 9:40PM): It was finally a beautiful day for games on Monday, until storms forced an early ending, as both baseball and softball featured two top-10 teams at Lumen Christi HS.
In baseball, the Titans forced a mercy rule after four innings as they defeated Columbia Central 15-0.
Seven Lumen batters had at least one hit in the 1st inning, Paul Sattler and Wes Learned had multiple. 7 Titans had at least one RBI; while Harrison Botke, Kellen Crowley, and Sattler had two RBIs. All of this and a few walks opened up an 11 run lead in the first.
Botke and Crowley kept the bats going in the 3rd, both recording singles. Botke was hit home by Brennan Brogan. Benny Gaston closed the game out in the bottom of the 4th with a walk-off solo homerun beyond right field. Lumen Christi cruises by Columbia Central 15-0. Game two was suspended due to inclement weather.
Moving over to the softball diamond, it was another battle between two top-10 teams in Division 3. An RBI single from Hailey Wetherby opened the scoring in the first inning, Kelsey Fausz scored to give Columbia Central a 1-0 lead. The Titans had several innings of runners stranded on base, and couldn’t capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Raell Bice hit a 2-RBI double on a fly ball into center field in the 6th inning, extending the CC lead to 3-0. The fourth run for the Golden Eagles would come in the 7th inning, as Savannah MacBlain singled on a bunt which scored a run.
Hailey Wetherby’s powerful pitching performance led the Golden Eagles in the single game. The Akron commit threw 13 strikeouts in seven innings, allowing four hits. Wetherby also surpassed 500 career strikeouts in the game, still in her junior year. Six different players combined for CC’s six hits. CC is still undefeated and is now 17-0.
