Last year: 0-9 overall

New Columbia Central High School football head Coach Dylan Zaborowski had a tough decision to make earlier in the summer.

But the coach realized where his alliances stood.

Zaborowski was chosen as the new Hanover-Horton head football coach, but also had an offer from CCHS about 10 days later.

He has been a teacher in the CCHS district for three years.

“I just couldn’t say no (to Columbia Central),” Zaborowski said. “I had coached a lot of these players in junior varsity basketball.”

Zaborowski was an assistant coach at Michigan Center last year during the Cardinals’ run to the state semifinals.

“I am eager to show that last year (an 0-for-9 record for CCHS) was just a down year,” Zaborowski said. “It sounds cliché, but we need to continue to stack good days together.”

CCHS senior Ty Farmer has been the leading tackler for the Golden Eagles the last two seasons and has a great chance to break the school record for career tackles.

Cody Richardson (quarterback/defensive back), Braiden Berro (wide receiver/linebacker), Alan Marshall (lineman), and Braden Ellison (running back) are returning players the Golden Eagles will count on.

“We have good chemistry on the team this season,” Richardson said.

Newcomers include Chase Strasser (wide receiver/defensive back), Colton Plate (linebacker/running back), Broden Steinke (linebacker/offensive lineman), and Tahjon Majors (lineman).

The Golden Eagles expect to have 30 players at the varsity level and 25 on the junior varsity team.

“Our motto is “it takes what it takes” Zaborowski said. “We have to do the little things and reward kids that do whatever it takes to win.”
