East Jackson Wins Conference

The East Jackson boys basketball team captured the Cascades Conference championship Thursday night with a victory over Michigan Center 50 to 35.  This was the first championship for the team since 1998, their 9th overall in school history.  Coach Greg Zeller credited a strong defense in the win.  The Trojans end the regular season with a record of 15-4.  The Class C Districts begins next week and East Jackson is hosting their  tournament.

Stockbridge Underwater Robotics

The Stockbridge High School Advanced Underwater Robotics Team displayed their ROV on today's show.  The goal of their project is to design, build and deploy an underwater ROV to the Republic of Palau and search for the last remaining missing B24 shot down in Palau during August of 1944.  They are headed to the South Pacific in late March and are welcoming contributions.  Details on their Facebook page.  Instructor Bob Richards and students Buck Poszywak and Jenny Spink represented the team.  Other guests include State Representative Earl Poleski;  Cindy Lyons and Melissa Weaver from the Jackson Area Career Center;  Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Erik Smith and Gregory Bentle with the Restaurant Rally. Extreme Makeover

Home Depot and volunteers participated in an Extreme Makeover at the Salvation Army this week.  Over $16,000 in supplies was donated by Home Depot and volunteers worked on painting, carpeting, lighting and ceilings to give the Salvation Army a new look.  On today's show, Kim Conant unveils the results.  Also today, Pastor James Hines from the Lily Mission Center;  Coffee Talk with Robert Ernst of the Jackson Coffee Company;  Dr. Jim O'Connor, St. Luke's Clinic and Sherrie Douglas, Moose Lodge with a benefit fundraiser;  weekend entertainment previews with Hollywood Correspondent Dave DeBaker. Yesterday, the Michigan Theatre set a single day attendance record with 1,934 watching "Bully, the Movie".  The film continues its run next week and all are welcome. UPDATE:  The Michigan Theatre will host two more free family showings of “Bully The Movie” on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 27-28, with Kevin Epling talking with families at the Thursday showing. The shows start at 6:30 p.m. both nights.  Epling was the force behind the passage of “Matt’s Safe School Law” in Michigan. The law is named after his son who committed suicide in 2002 after continuously being bullied by older students
