JDRF Walk to Cure Celebrates 14th Year
The Jackson JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes is scheduled for 9am, September 14th at Ella Sharp Park . Event organizer Bob Craft was joined by brothers Matthew and Michael Kanalas with their father Tom Kanalas on today's show. Matthew and Michael both were diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and will be putting a team together for the 14th annual walk. Details and registration information can be found online here. Attendance Up at Jackson County Fair
Jackson County Fair Manager Denise Owens reports attendance at this year's Jackson County Fair surpassed 225,000 visitors, a large increase from past years. She credits strong grandstand shows and great weather. Plans for next year's entertainment offerings are already underway. Civil War Muster This Weekend
Cascades, Inc. President Kim Conant and Civil War Re-enactor Doug McComas are preparing for this weekend's 29th Annual Civil War Muster. The event includes staged battles on Saturday and Sunday, concerts, food and historical displays. The event is free and details and schedules at civilwarmuster.org. Entrepreneurship Workshop Series to Launch
The Business of Creativity Workshop Series, presented by the Spring Arbor University Hosmer Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Jackson County begins September 7th. New Rose Queen Makes First Public Appearance
The newly crowned Miss Jackson County Rose Queen, Emily Sioma, made her first official public appearance today as a guest on The Bart Hawley Show. The entire pageant will air on JTV Summer Spectacular this weekend. Michigan Center’s Drew Dowding Ready for Senior Season with the Cards
By Larry Jacobson, JTV Sports It finally hit Drew Dowding this summer. On the third day of a three-day camp in Hillsdale, he realized this would be his final football season for the Michigan Center Cardinals. “It really hit me on that final day,” Dowding said. “This is my last year and my last season. It made me pretty sad because I’ve loved every minute of it. I’ve had a great high school career and I’m definitely sad to see it end.” Most of the time you don’t realize how much fun something is until it’s over or it’s gone. Drew Dowding is one of the fortunate ones, because he realizes it right now and he plans on enjoying every last moment. “I’m going to soak up every last minute of this year and keep it going as long as we can,” he said. “We have a lot of younger guys, so it’s very important that guys step up and be leaders. As a senior, I have to show the younger players how to play at this level and how to win in the Cascades Conference. If the young players are quick learners, we can have a really good season.”…
