Rusty Wallace visits The Chase Sports Bar

Nascar legend Rusty Wallace, in town for the Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway, knocked on the door of The Chase 10 minutes before opening this morning.  Rusty was anxious to see his race car hanging above the bar and add his signature to the driver's side door.  This is an actual Rusty Wallace car having seen extensive race duty at MIS.  Tickets for the Pure Michigan 400 are available at www.mispeedway.com and at the gate.  The Chase will be open all weekend to accommodate race and pizza fans.  Guest today include:  Columbia Schools Superintendent Pamela Campbell;  Cheryl Norey, Community Relations Coordinator, MACI;  Toys of the Month with Phil Wrzesinki;  Liz Niles, American 1 Credit Union;  Civil War Muster's Kim Conant;  Ric Walton, The Walton Agency.

Rose Queen Pageants This Weekend

The Jackson County Rose Queen Scholarship Pageant is this Saturday evening at 7pm at Jackson High School Auditorium.  The Jackson County Outstanding Teen Pageant precedes the Rose Queen Pageant on Friday evening at 7pm, also at Jackson High School.  Outgoing Rose Queen Kelly Gooch and outgoing Miss Jackson County Outstanding Teen Kaitlin Hagerty visited today's show to remind viewers to attend, tickets are available at the door both nights.  Other guests:  Ron Betzig, Director of Entrepreneurship Program at Jackson College;  a visit to Heartland Healthcare;  Kelly Burr, Shop Rat Foundation;  Teresa Greenslade and Sydney Nagy, Thought 1 Scholarship Fund Annual Dinner.

City Manager Reports on Council Actions

City Manager Patrick Burtch reported on the actions of the Jackson City Council's meeting last night.  The council will not be challenging the court ruling regarding the storm water fee and will be making some cuts in services.  Due to the loss of income, leaf pickup and street sweeping will not be provided in the immediate future.  Other guests:  Center for Family Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sangeeta Sinha and R.N. Purple Heart Recipient Named Honorary Starter of Pure Michigan 400

LANSING – U.S. Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient David Balestrino Jr. has been named honorary starter for the Pure Michigan 400 being held this Sunday, August 18, at Michigan International Speedway.  Balestrino was the winner of a fan contest on the Pure Michigan Facebook page, receiving the highest number of votes for his entry on why he wanted to wave the green flag on race day. Balestrino, of Youngstown, Ohio, served as a Combat Engineer in the U.S. Army from 2003-2009 and received a Purple Heart during his service in Iraq.  In his entry, Balestrino said he would like to drop the green flag in honor of his six year old son. “While serving in Iraq I missed the entire first year of Brady's life,” Balestrino said. “That was the most difficult thing I ever had to go through.  I still can't believe that I was picked for this awesome honor and I hope that I can make everyone who has served or is still serving proud.” As honorary starter, Balestrino will also have the opportunity to receive a pace car ride from NASCAR’s official pace car driver and attend the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers’ meeting. “We received many…

Taste of Jackson 2013

Co-ed Green Division CHAMPIONSHIP GAME Vista Grande Villa  10  It Works  2.  Tony Kiszka went 3 for 3 with a double and 3 RBIs while Jason Longbrake went 1 for 2 with a home run and 3 RBIs for Vista Grande Villa.  Manny Martin and Johanna Bartel each went 3 for 3 for It Works. Men's Blue Division 2nd Round Play-off Game Controlled Turning 8  Denton's Den  4.  Matt Tucker went 4 for 4 with a triple and Steve Johnson also went 4 for 4 and Matt Tuttle went 3 for 3 to lead Controlled Turning.  Mike Norris went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and Brady Robinson doubled for Denton's Den. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME Gerdau  22  Controlled Turning  18.  Brian Wolak went 5 for 5 with 3 home runs, a double and 6 RBIs while Kelly DeForest also went 5 for 5 with 2 home runs, a double and 6 RBIs as Gerdau came from behind to score 6 runs in the top of the 7th.  Ben Rickman went 4 for 4 with 3 doubles , Kyle Simon went 4 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles to lead Controlled Turning.
