United Way Names Youth Volunteer of the Year

Northwest High School senior Hadleigh Buchler was named the 2014 United Way of Jackson County Youth Volunteer of the Year at a recent ceremony.  According to Beth Shafer, Resource Development Director, Hadleigh's involvement with mentoring and her work with the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Intitiative were among the reasons she was honored.  Other guests:  Grand Bauman, Principal Planner, Region 2 Planning Commission;  Clyde McKaney, Amy Gale and Anita Fobes, JSO Strings Ensemble;  Alex Zemer and Nate Cheney, Wisconsin Cheese Castle;  Wendy Clifton, A Frame Above;  Artsy Fartsy Marketplace with Laura Schlecte.

Napoleon High School to host Brian Stuard Night

Members of the Napoleon Athletic Boosters will honor Napoleon High School graduate Brian Stuard during a ceremony prior to the NHS/Columbia Central High School boys’ varsity basketball game Dec. 16. Stuard is starting his fourth season on the PGA Tour after finishing 51st in the FedEx Cup standings in 2013-14. He earned more than $1.85 million during the recently-completed season. Brian Stuard Night will begin with an autograph session in a room overlooking the basketball court from 5:30 to approximately 6:45 p.m. Those in attendance of the basketball game may have items signed by Stuard during that 75-minute period in the upstairs balcony. A 10-minute ceremony will take place following the NHS/CCHS junior varsity basketball game. Stuard will meet with media members following the ceremony and enjoy the friendly rivalry between the two schools following interviews. One of his best friends in high school is D.J. Corrections to Hire 1,000

DIal A Ride for New Year’s Eve

Consumers Energy United Way Campaign Sets Record

Carolyn Bloodworth, Secretary-Treasurer of Consumers Energy Foundation reported the company's 2014 Jackson County United Way campaign set a new record of more than $750,000 pledged by Consumers Energy employees and retirees. Matched by a corporate gift of $200,000, a total of $950,000 was raised through contributions and various fundraisers.  Carolyn noted the company employees' volunteer contributions were numerous in 2014, aiding the United Way and many other charities and non-profits.  Other guests:  Mary Jo Kennedy, Criminal Justice Program Administrator, Jackson College;  Paulo DeCola, Gold Crown Jewelers;  Capital City Brass Band Tuba Quartet;  a tour of Anna's Unique Gifts with Keith Kusterer;  Sue Lovell, Cascades Humane Society Pet of the Week.
