“Rare Earth” to Perform at Jackson County Fair

 The acclaimed Detroit based Motown group Rare Earth will be joining The Beach Boys at the Jackson County Fair for an evening of music and fun in Jackson, Michigan! They are set to perform at the fair Monday, August 10th at 7:00p.m. Rare Earth has been sharing their unique talent with the world since the 1960’s. In ‘61, the group of high school musicians began experimenting with their tastes and talents. Not long after, Rare Earth caught the attention of audiences’ world wide, including Motown Records. Motown not only signed the band in 1968, but they also named the new label of their corporation after Rare Earth. Rare Earth has been described as the “People’s Band,” appealing to music lovers of all ages. Some famous artists Rare Earth has played alongside include Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Ike and Tina Turner, and Earth, Wind, and Fire, to name a few. Rare Earth has had many chart topping hits. “Counselor of the Year” Named

Jackson, Mich.— Jackson Area Career Center counselor Paula Freehling has been named Counselor of the Year by the Jackson Counseling Association (JCA). The award was selected through a voting process open to all members of the JCA, which includes 32 members representing each of the county’s 13 public high schools along with several other colleges and agencies. "This is great recognition for Paula and all her efforts to support students at the Career Center,” said Mark Pogliano, Career Center principal. “We are very fortunate to have Paula and the other counselors who understand the importance of career training, academic support, and postsecondary options for each of our students." Freehling started with the JCISD in 2001 as a Career Prep Coordinator before coming on as a counselor at the Career Center in 2003. “It was an honor to be recognized by my peers for this award,” said Freehling. “I truly enjoy having the chance to make a difference in students’ lives and help prepare them for success after the Career Center.” Nominations for the award are made by fellow counselors, and are based upon the recognition of qualities that include the counselor’s effectiveness, dedication to the position, and the level of…

Jackson Coffee Company to Sponsor Car at MIS

JACKSON, MI: June 1, 2015--Jackson Coffee Co. announced today that it is sponsoring the #70 car at the Nascar Xfinity Race Series at Michigan International Speedway on June 13th. "We are thrilled to partner with DCR racing and be the primary sponsor of their #70 car at the Nascar Xfinity race at MIS.” said Brian Surgener, Jackson Coffee Co.’s President. “With the large following of Nascar fans in the Jackson area, we felt it was a great way to reach this customer base and further expose them to our brand.” Advertising at this level is often reserved for the much larger companies. Generally it’s Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Lowes, etc., on the hood of these cars, but rarely do you see a small business rise to this level of advertising.
