NASCAR makes changes to race package for MIS

BROOKLYN, Mich. (July 7, 2015) —NASCAR announced on Tuesday changes to the race package for the Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, August 14. The changes to the car for the race include a nine-inch spoiler with a one-inch wicker bill, a two-inch splitter and a 43-inch radiator pan. These changes are expected to increase the drag on the cars and optimize the racing. NASCAR spoke to the OEMs, owners, drivers and MIS about the package options to select the one to make the competition stronger. “MIS is very enthusiastic and supportive of the new rules package announced today by NASCAR,” track president Roger Curtis said. “Since we repaved in 2012, not only has MIS been the fastest track in NASCAR, but our fans have seen some very competitive racing with several lead changes and winners such as Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr and Jimmie Johnson. “We are excited at any steps NASCAR takes to make the competition even stronger and we loudly applaud their new willingness and commitment to make improvements for the fans during the season. “Given the proximity to the start of The Chase, the Pure Michigan 400 would already be a race of high…

Walberg Responds to Supreme Court Decisions

Congressman Tim Walberg spent the holiday weekend in the district, visiting the Grass Lake Sanctuary and holding coffee hours with constituents.  Walberg discussed his disagreement with the two recent Supreme Court decisions on today's Bart Hawley Show.  According to Walberg, the President’s health care law is inherently flawed, and the Supreme Court decision doesn’t change that fact.  Walberg said, "Far too often I’ve heard from families who have lost their doctor or experienced a jump in premiums under this unworkable law. Instead of a top-down bureaucratic system, we need to continue to work on positive solutions that put individual patients in charge and offer more choices for high quality, affordable care."  Regarding the ruling on same sex marriage, Walberg believes this is not a constitutional issue and should be left to individual states to decide.

Sycamore Baptist Church to hold annual Vacation Bible School

Sycamore Baptist Church is holding its annual Vacation Bible School July 13th through July 17th at Sycamore Baptist Church, 142 Sycamore St., Jackson, MI 49202. “To Eternity and Beyond” is their theme this year, and the church is going all out in decorations and costumes. You may have seen some of the VBS characters at the fireworks show this past weekend, as members of Sycamore spent some time in costume, taking pictures with people in the crowd and handing out flyers with information about VBS. Vacation Bible School starts each day at 9:00 a.m. with a time of songs, skits and games. All classes are divided into one of two teams, either the Red Rocketeers or the Blue Star Commanders. The teams compete against each other for points by participating in the games and songs, chanting cheers, and memorizing Bible verses. After the Opening Assembly (re: Fun Time), the classes (divided by age) enjoy snack time and then head to their individual classrooms for age-appropriate lessons and a time of games or crafts and fun. The morning then wraps up with another general session called Rally Time, which includes two highlights of Sycamore’s Vacation Bible School:  The Main Skit and…
