Kasprzycki to be inducted into Jackson Golf Hall of Fame

Jackson, MI - Stanley David (Inch) Kasprzycki, owner of Hankerd Hills Golf Course for 39 years, is this year's inductee into the Jackson Golf Hall of Fame. Kasprzycki will become the 63rd member of the Hall of Fame, and the first golf course owner, when he is inducted in ceremonies at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at Sharp Park Golf Course. The public is invited to attend the induction at no charge. "What Dave and his family have done at Hankerd Hills has added tremendously to the growth and enjoyment of golf in Jackson County," Hall of Fame chairman Gary Kalahar said. "What was little more than a quaint nine-hole resort course has been transformed into a facility that rightly takes its place among the finest in the area." When Kasprzycki bought Hankerd Hills in 1978, it was a nine-hole course with a small starter house, played primarily by Pleasant Lake area residents and visitors.  Today, after what is believed to be the second-longest golf course ownership run in county history, Hankerd Hills boasts 27 holes, a large clubhouse/restaurant, and a golf season full of events. In the early years of his ownership, Kasprzycki installed an irrigation system, purchased carts and built…

Construction of Cascades Splash Pad, Trail Extension to Begin this Fall

Photo: The Norview Splash Pad in Norfolk, VA (courtesy city of Norfolk) Jackson County Parks Director Jeff Hovarter announced several projects planned during the fall and winter, including the construction of a splash pad as part of Phase 2 of the Cascades Renovation Project. The goal of this next phase is to provide families and children an interactive experience with a new aquatics facility.  According to Hovarter, this will be a swimming pool with spray cannons and other features that move water, but with no basin for safety reasons. The aquatics facility will allow The Cascades to expand hours and operate from 11am to 11pm during the summer season. The project will involve permanently closing the south parking lot and the south entrance of the Cascades along Brown Street.  Plans are to improve and maintain one main entrance at the north side where the museum is located,  adjacent to the large main parking lot, near the sledding hill. “We are in design now and we hope to let bids in late September and have a contractor by mid-October” said Hovarter.  “We’re hoping by mid-June (2017) at the latest we will be up and operating”.  Over the winter, foundations will be…
