#1 Spring Arbor Women’s Soccer rallies back to defeat #2 Lindsey Wilson

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 1 ranked Spring Arbor University women’s soccer team battled back from an early deficit to defeat No. 2 Lindsey Wilson College 2-1 in the NAIA Game of the Week on Saturday night at the Cougar Soccer Complex.   Junior Aubrey Schierbeek scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the 67th minute to lift SAU past the Blue Raiders, and extend the team’s winning streak to 24 consecutive matches. The Cougars improved to 5-0 while Lindsey Wilson suffered its third straight setback – all to Top 10 ranked opponents – to drop to 2-3 overall.   “Lindsey Wilson is a great, well coached program and we have tremendous respect for them,” said head coach Jason Crist. “Tonight was a good result for our group.”   The highly anticipated rematch of the 2015 national championship game lived up to all the hype and expectations. Spring Arbor, who upset Lindsey Wilson to capture its first national title a season ago, dominated the match early on. The Cougars ripped seven shots, including one off the crossbar by Schierbeek, and earned three corner kicks through the first 20 minutes, but an outstanding effort by the LWC goalkeeper…

Donors Give the Gift of Life at Spirit of America Blood Drive

(Photo:  Michigan International Speedway played host to its annual Spirit of America Blood Drive where guests were able to donate the gift of life as well as view the track’s Home of the Brave exhibit and Unity Field. Courtesy MIS) More than 565 donors came to donate blood at the Spirit of America Blood Drive at Michigan International Speedway, serving as a strong reminder that America will “never forget” the events of 9/11. The blood drive at the racetrack began as a tribute in 2002 in honor of the victims and heroes of 9/11. Since its inception, the Spirit of America blood drive has collected more than 10,709 pints of blood, positively affecting more than 32,127 lives. In 2016 alone about 510 units were collected on Sunday. Those donations alone can potentially save 1,530 lives. (Each unit can be transfused to up to three people.) “I can’t say enough about the countless efforts of donors, volunteers, sponsors, Michigan Blood and MIS employees and the many others who helped make this event a success,” MIS Director of Guest Services and Spirit of America founder Tim Booth said. “A special thanks goes out to all the blood donors. This drive wouldn’t be…

Taylor, Suddeth, Defense Carry Jackson to 21-14 Victory over East Lansing

Photo by Ryan Kerwin, JTV By Mike Moore Staff Writer Jackson — This was one of those gutsy efforts, at every turn and in every way. Whether it was three touchdown passes from a quarterback who hadn’t thrown the ball much all year, a veteran running back taking over the second half when needed most, or a defense that bent, but in the most critical moment, refused to break. A gutsy effort. A needed win. “I’m just real proud of our guys. That’s a one-touchdown game against a very good football team,” Jackson coach Scott Farley said after his team hung on to beat East Lansing 21-14 Friday night at home. “I think we showed the maturity of the program. We’re winning these close games now.” “Big win. Big conference win,” quarterback Lance Taylor said after tossing three touchdown passes in the win. “Now we’re tied for first place. We’re going to work hard and keep pushing and keep getting better.” After starting the season 1-1, Farley said it was imperative to begin conference play on the right foot. And his guys came out playing like a team determined to do just that. On East Lansing’s opening drive, Jackson cornerback…
