Red Cross Blood Drive.  12 p.m. - 5:45 p.m., Christ Lutheran Church, 4250 Page Avenue, Michigan Center.  The American Red Cross continues to face an emergency blood shortage. Eligible donors of all blood types are urged to give now. Hospital and Area Agencies Collaborate for Full Scale Emergency Exercise

Henry Ford Allegiance Health will hold a full-scale, emergency exercise on Wednesday, August 15, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in and around the hospital campus located at 205 N. East Avenue in Jackson. The exercise will focus on emergency response to an active shooter incident and is being hosted by Henry Ford Allegiance Health’s Emergency Management department, in collaboration with local, regional and state emergency responders. It will involve a simulation of the organization’s emergency operations plan and will help to ensure a coordinated, effective response and recovery in the event of an actual incident. There will be significant law enforcement, fire and emergency medical vehicles present during the exercise. In order to avoid any confusion, the public is being notified ahead of time. The exercise is closed to the general public, for safety reasons. During the exercise, all Henry Ford Allegiance Health facilities will be open as unusual, including the Emergency Department. Patient care will not be interrupted. Local agencies participating in the exercise include: Jackson City Police and Fire Departments, Blackman Township Public Safety, Michigan State Police, Jackson Community Ambulance/Emergent Health Partners, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County Emergency Management, Michigan State Police Emergency Management Homeland Security…

Outdoor Hockey and Winter Festival Coming to Michigan International Speedway

Michigan International Speedway has announced an outdoor amateur hockey tournament and a winter festival will be held over two weekends in January 2019 at the Speedway.  The inaugural MIS Backyard Hockey Tournament and Winter Festival has been created to provide a unique experience for everyone.  The three-on-three and four-on-four hockey tournament will take place on Jan. 4 – 6 and Jan. 11 – 13, 2019. The backyard hockey rinks will be set up right on the tri-oval at Michigan International Speedway as fans will be able to enjoy a winter festival that will include food, beverages, and winter activities on pit road or enjoy the action from a suite. The event’s first marketing partner, the Detroit Red Wings, are thrilled to support the event and Michigan youth and adult hockey. “Backyard hockey rinks dot the state of Michigan from down river to the east and west sides and in the U.P.,” said Chris Granger, Group President, Sports & Entertainment, Ilitch Holdings, Inc. “We’re proud to support these fun and competitive weekends on the racetrack rinks.”  The Jackson Area Hockey Association will assist in running the event.
