New Downtown Apartment Development Announced at Sign Unveiling

A sign unveiling ceremony was held this morning to announce a new mixed use development to be built next year in Downtown Jackson.  The development, named “The 200”, consists of a four story building with 3 floors of upscale apartments and 4,100 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor.  City officials and local community leaders gathered at the corner of North Jackson Street and Louis Glick Highway as signage was unveiled announcing the project.  The site was previously home to K&J Tire and the Jackson Comedy Club/Golf Club/Sid Young’s buildings.  The name, “The 200”, is derived from the address, 200 N. Jackson Street.  The land and buildings occupying the site had been purchased and razed by the City of Jackson in 2016 with the intent to market the property for a major residential or commercial development. The developers, Jackson Downtown Partners (JDP), have had a series of option agreements to purchase and develop the property from the city.  Studies conducted by the Jackson Anchor Initiative and Jackson Young Professionals found that a new mixed use complex would be a viable addition to Jackson, serving the needs of young professionals looking for housing downtown. Events of September 28, 29, and 30, 2018

September 28 Oktoberfest at the Jackson YMCA.  The best weekend party is here! Oktoberfest runs for two nights, Sept. 28-29, in front of the Downtown Y.  It features the great food, drink, music and fun you've come to expect, along with new food options.   Friday night entertainment features two acts: Bill Slaught is up first, from 5-6:45 p.m., followed by the Persuaders starting at 7 p.m. New this year is food from Shorty's Grill. Both nights include a cover charge of $2 per person, starting at 5 p.m., for ages 18 and up. Grand River Farmers Market.  The Grand River Farmers Market is open very Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 am until 2 pm at the corner of Louis Glick & Mechanic St.  The market is full of MICHIGAN GROWN PRODUCE including fresh vegetables, fruits, organic goods, vegan cookies, muffins, granola, honey, jams, breads, pastas, jewelry, dog treats, salsas, fruit pies, sweet corn, tomatoes, hanging flower baskets, blueberries, maple syrup, chard, broccoli, peas, mums, and much more!
