Local bowlers earn all-state honors

The awards are voted on by Michigan High School Interscholastic Bowling Coaches Association members. In Division 4, two-time state champion Mackenzie Johnson of Vandercook Lake heads the first-team all-state list. Johnson recently won her second consecutive state individual title with a win over Dakota Smith of Bronson High School in the D-4 final. Johnson was second at the state meet in qualifying, defeated three opponents on the way to a 364-333 win over Smith in the finals. The senior helped the Jayhawks win a pair of state team titles in four years. She also earned an academic all-state honors for her performance in the classroom. Joining Johnson on the first-team are Kassidy Alexander of Hanover-Horton and Kathryn Sayles of Napoleon. Alexander, a sophomore, qualified for the state tournament finishing 10th. She advanced to the stepladder round, but lost in the opening round of 16. Sayles was also a state qualifier who finished 22nd overall at the state meet. Fantastic music?  The Michigan Center Jazz Band and Drumline are hosting their annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser on Wednesday, March 20 at Michigan Center High School!  Join us for an evening of delicious food and fabulous entertainment!   Single tickets: $8 Families of 4-6: $28.  Kids 10 and under eat free!   Don't miss out! United Way Diaper Drive.  United Way of Jackson County (UWJC) is spearheading the United Way Diaper Drive Presented By Henry Ford Allegiance Health to gather and deliver diapers to five local nonprofit partners. Adult Mental Health First Aid for Veterans and Their Families.  8 AM to 5 PM.  LifeWays, 1200 North West Avenue, Jackson.  LifeWays is proud to offer FREE Adult Mental Health First Aid for Military Members, Veterans & Their Families to local community members!  Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour, in-person training from the National Council for Behavioral Health that teaches the average community member how to help someone in a mental health crisis or experiencing symptoms of mental illness. During the training, you will learn how to identify the different signs and symptoms of mental illnesses and how to connect people to care.  Free to attend.  For more details, call  517-789-2490.
