Governor Closes Hair Salons, Tanning, Tattoo, Nail and Other Personal Care Services

(March 21, 2020 5:56 PM) Governor Gretchen Whitmer today signed Executive Order 2020-20, which makes clear that all facilities that provide non-essential personal care services must temporarily close. These services include hair, nail, tanning, massage, spa, tattoo, body art and piercing services, and similar services that require individuals to be within 6 feet of each other. This order does not apply to services necessary for medical treatment as determined by a licensed medical provider. The order also reaffirms the other temporary closures of places of public accommodation that were required by Executive Order 2020-9. The order takes effect no later than March 22 at 9 a.m. and remains in effect until April 13 at 11:59 p.m. "COVID-19 has created an unprecedented challenge to our way of life as Michiganders," said Gov. Whitmer. "That's why we are making decisions based on science and facts to protect public health and keep people safe. I know these changes will be hard, but they are temporary, and they are necessary to slow the spread of the virus and help save lives." AG Nessel Issues Alert on Phishing Scams

(March 21, 2020 3:39 PM) Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued an alert for consumers to be aware of phishing emails sent by scammers seeking to obtain your personal information and money.   Staff within the Michigan Department of Attorney General were subjected to a phishing scam today as they were led to believe they had received an email from AG Nessel requesting they purchase eBay gift cards then text the PINs to a specific number.  "This attempt is just another reminder that scammers are relentless and will stop at nothing to bamboozle us out of our hard-earned funds -- even when our country is facing a crisis," said Nessel. "I want to urge all Michiganders to remain on high alert and report any of this behavior to my office."  Although these phishing emails use a certain set of ingredients such as a sense of urgency and believable stories or connections, recipients should pay close attention to the following:   The name listed on the “from” line is not an indication of who is emailing! Pay close attention to the actual email address. If that email address doesn’t match up with what you know to be correct or is abnormally long, it’s likely a phishing scam.  …
