MDOC Cumulative Report: 4,479 Confirmed Positive Cases at Jackson Facilities, 568 Confirmed Positive Jackson Staff

(January 31, 2021 5:02 PM) The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 4 PM January 29, there are 23,922 confirmed positive COVID-19 cumulative cases at facilities throughout the state.  Of that statewide total, 4,479 of the confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities.    Throughout the state corrections system, there are currently 887 active cases. In Jackson, there are 1,775 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center,  at 1,216 Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 27 at Duane Waters Health Center, 933 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, and 528 at Parnall Correctional Facility.   All numbers are cumulative. Among staff, there are a total of 3,443 COVID-19 positive cases statewide.  In Jackson, there are 186 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among employees at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 153 at Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 114 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, 4 at Jackson Regional Warehouse, 3 at Jackson Regional Office, 2 at Jackson Training Center and 106 at Parnall Correctional Facility.  All numbers are cumulative. There have been a total of 132 deaths (statewide) of prisoners who had tested positive for COVID-19, 29 of those deaths were among prisoners at Jackson facilities.    Testing…

Durnell Leads Spring Arbor Men’s Basketball Past Goshen on Senior Day

(January 31, 2021 8:23 AM)  The Spring Arbor University men’s basketball team defeated Goshen College 89-76 on Senior Day behind 27 points from Brandon Durnell.   In addition to his 27 points, the senior standout from Fort Wayne grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to register his seventh double-double of the season.  Prior to the contest, the Cougars recognized three seniors, Connor Cottingham, Brandon Durnell and Spencer McPherson, for their contributions to the program.  With the score tied 17-17 midway through the first half, Joshua Laman led SAU on a 16-6 run to take the lead. Laman fueled the scoring spurt with 10 consecutive points for the Cougars over a span of three minutes.  Spring Arbor led by as many as 16 in the opening stanza, and would take a 47-34 advantage into the halftime break.  Goshen battled its way back into the game early in the second half, cutting the deficit to three, 60-57, with 13:27 to play. That was as close as the Maple Leafs would get, however, as the Cougars quickly pushed the margin back to double-digits.  Five Cougars reached double figures, led by Durnell’s 27 points. Kiwanis Raised More Than $7,000 for Projects

By Jeff Steers JTV News (January 30, 2020 4:33 PM) The top brass at the Jackson Kiwanis Club were ready to mark zero for their fundraising efforts in regards to the annual Chili Golf Charity Classic due to COVID-19 restrictions. That was before a group said they would still play – despite the restrictions. Nearly 70 golfers participated in the 35th annual Chili Golf Charity Classic on Saturday at Hankerd Hills Golf Course. The tournament had to limit the food aspect of the tournament and gathering as a group due to the restrictions. Funds raised from the tournament will help the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Jackson Y-Center, the shoes and boots program, and other local programs. “We didn’t expect anything out of the tournament,” Jackson Kiwanis past President Mike Zuchowski said. “We received a $3,000 donation from Walmart.” More than 50 local businesses and individuals helped make the tournament a reality with donations. Michigan Reports 1,358 Coronavirus Cases Today, State Total Now 559,241

(January 30, 2021 3:28 PM) Michigan reported 1,358 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 559,241. Michigan is reporting 104* COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 14,601.  *The deaths announced today includes 93 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. See cumulative data page for more information. State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 1/29/21): 481,801. This information is updated Monday through Saturday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.  Monday reports include Sunday data.

More Than 5,000 Attend Let Them Play Rally at Capitol

By Jeff Steers JTV News (January 30, 2021 3:20 PM) Michigan Center High School student-athlete Brendan O’Dowd is tired of skating around with no contact. The Jackson United Hockey Team member is ready for a little C&C – contact and competition. O’Dowd and a number of teammates were at the Michigan Capitol on Saturday for a Let Them Play rally. More than 5,000 student-athletes, coaches, school administrators and high school fans attended the rally. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services shut down contact sports – basketball, wrestling, hockey, and competitive cheer – just over a week ago. The new startup date is now Feb. 21. “We just want to play hockey,” O’Dowd said. “We have been practicing on and off the last couple of weeks … but have been canceling a lot because of COVID-19.” More than 20 student-athletes told their stories and made their pleas during the rally. Jackson County Cumulative Report: 8,701 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 195 Deaths

(January 30, 2021 11:45 AM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 11:45 AM today, there are 8,701 positive cases (cumulative), and 195 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 45 new cases since yesterday’s report.  Cumulative recovered, as of January 30, 2021:  7,379** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 7:30 PM January 22, there are 4,440 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 560 confirmed positive staff cases.  MDOC positive case numbers are cumulative. As of January 20, there are 19 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. Note:  Jackson County will post COVID-19 data daily by mid-afternoon, Monday-Saturday, keeping with the schedule established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). The cumulative numbers posted on Monday will include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  Epicurve data and Township maps are also posted on Mondays by 3:30 PM. *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers…
