New MDHHS Epidemic Order Allows Indoor Group Exercise, Non-Contact Sports
(January 13, 2021 12:13 PM) The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) updated its epidemic order today to allow re-opening of additional activities where Michiganders can remain masked and socially distanced, as this has been scientifically shown to slow the virus. This includes indoor group exercise and non-contact sports. The new order is effective Saturday, Jan. 16 and will last until Sunday, Jan. 31. “The efforts we have made together to protect our families, frontline workers and small business owners are working. While there has been a slight uptick in our percent positivity rate, our cases per million have plateaued and more hospital beds are becoming available. Today, we are confident that MDHHS can lift some of the protocols that were previously in place,” said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. “Michigan is once again standing out as a nationwide leader in fighting this virus, and we must continue working to keep it that way. One of the most important things Michiganders can do is to make a plan to get the safe and effective vaccine when it’s available to you. And as always, mask up and maintain six feet of social distancing. Jackson County Cumulative Report: 8,172 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 183 Deaths
(January 13, 2021 11:35 AM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County. As of 11:30 AM today, there are 8,172 positive cases (cumulative), and 183 deaths (cumulative)*. There are 43 new cases since yesterday’s report. Cumulative recovered, as of January 13, 2020: 6,452** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday. Recovered numbers are being posted as received. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 6:50 PM January 8, there are 4,283 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 531 confirmed positive staff cases. MDOC positive case numbers are cumulative. As of 7 AM January 6, there 43 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. Note: Jackson County will post COVID-19 data daily by mid-afternoon, Monday-Saturday, keeping with the schedule established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with Slate of Activities From Jackson College
(January 12, 2021 9:36 PM) Community members are invited to join Jackson College in a day of observances for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Jan. 18, 2021. “Jackson College is deeply committed to keeping Dr. King’s dream alive. Dr. King’s dream was a dream of equity, that every person that is willing to work hard will be provided every opportunity to be successful. We have an amazing agenda for a full day’s worth of opportunities to not only celebrate the life of Dr. King, but to also be able to develop our own cultural competencies and to energize our commitment to keeping his dream alive,” said Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Belonging Lee Hampton.
