(January 9, 2021 12:21 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 8,062 positive cases (cumulative), and 182 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 37 new cases and 8 new deaths since yesterday’s report.  Cumulative recovered, as of January 9, 2020:  6,169** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 4:00 PM December 30, there are 4,130 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 508 confirmed positive staff cases.  MDOC positive case numbers are cumulative. As of 7 AM January 5, there 47 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. Note:  Jackson County will post COVID-19 data daily by mid-afternoon, Monday-Saturday, keeping with the schedule established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). (January 8, 2021 3:13 PM) Michigan reported 3,625 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 516,376. Michigan is reporting 38 COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 13,132. State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 12/30/2020): 363,611. This information is updated Monday through Saturday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.  Monday reports include Sunday data. 

(January 8, 2020 1:34 PM) Governor Gretchen Whitmer today announced new guidance for schools today to keep students, staff and communities safe during the COVID-19 pandemic while providing the in-person instruction that is crucial to learning and development.  The state’s goal is to have all Michigan school districts offer an in-person learning option for students no later than March 1, and earlier if possible.  Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' guidance emphasizes use of scientifically proven methods of reducing the risk of COVID-19 spread, include wearing masks, ventilation improvements, frequent hand washing and social distancing.  Vaccination of teachers and other school staff will begin by Jan. 11 due to educators’ roles as essential frontline workers.   “MDHHS will continue to do what it takes to save lives and limit the spread of COVID-19,” said Director Robert Gordon. “At the same time, in-person instruction is critical for the current and the future well-being of children, especially young learners and students who are disadvantaged. (January 8, 2020 1:20 PM) The U.S. Small Business Administration and the Treasury Department, announced today that the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) will re-open the week of January 11 for new borrowers and certain existing PPP borrowers. To promote access to capital, initially only community financial institutions will be able to make First Draw PPP Loans on Monday, January 11 and Second Draw PPP Loans on Wednesday, January 13.  The PPP will open to all participating lenders shortly thereafter. Updated PPP guidance outlining Program changes to enhance its effectiveness and accessibility was released on January 6 in accordance with the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Non-Profits, and Venues Act. This round of the PPP continues to prioritize millions of Americans employed by small businesses by authorizing up to $284 billion toward job retention and certain other expenses through March 31, 2021, and by allowing certain existing PPP borrowers to apply for a Second Draw PPP Loan. “The Paycheck Protection Program has successfully provided 5.2 million loans worth $525 billion to America’s small businesses, supporting more than 51 million jobs,” said Secretary Steven T. (January 8, 2021 11:14 AM) The Jackson County Health Department has released a statement following Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Wednesday announcement opening up vaccinations to the next phase (1B, 1C) of eligible Michigan residents.  The department says it does not have a supply of vaccine to accommodate this next phase. The state announced on Wednesday it would allow individuals ages 65-74 in Phase 1C to be eligible for the vaccination along with teachers, police officers and people over age 75 who are in Phase 1B of the state's four-phase vaccination prioritization plan. The first phase of mass inoculations, 1A,  is limited to health care workers, paid or unpaid, including those who do not have direct contact with patients, as well as residents of long-term care facilities. In her announcement, the Governor said all counties may begin vaccinating residents over age 65 and urged residents to visit Michigan.gov/COVIDVaccine to find local health departments and other local vaccine clinics near them that are ready to book appointments.  However, as of Friday morning, only one health department (Schoolcraft County) in Michigan is listed as currently booking appointments.  Only Ingham County and LMAS District (Luce, Mackinac, Alger and Schoolcraft Counties) are listed on the vaccine…
