(February 27, 2021 3:10 PM) Michigan reported 1,156 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 587,581. Michigan is reporting 68* COVID-19-related death today with the state total at 15,522. *The deaths announced today includes 62 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. (February 27, 2021 12:00 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 9,223 positive cases (cumulative), and 217 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 12 new cases and 3 new deaths since yesterday’s report.  Cumulative recovered, as of February 27:  8,523** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 4:00 PM February 19, there are 4,529 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 578 confirmed positive staff cases.  MDOC positive case numbers are cumulative. As of 8 AM February 23,  there are 15 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. Note:  Jackson County will post COVID-19 data daily by mid-afternoon, Monday-Saturday, keeping with the schedule established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). (February 26, 2021 8:58 PM) Today’s recommendation by an FDA panel to approve Emergency Use Authorization for Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine could increase available shots in Michigan by as much as 50%. That was the message during a media briefing today from Usamah (Sam) Mossallam, M.D., MBA, emergency medicine physician and Vice President and Medical Director of International Initiatives at Henry Ford Health System. According to Dr. Mossallam, the State of Michigan could initially receive as many as 83,000 doses of the one-shot J & J vaccine per week, and even more if Johnson & Johnson meets its goal of providing up to 20 million doses nationwide by April. Pfizer and Moderna have also promised to increase the amount of available vaccine by a combined 90 million doses by April 1. “Between these three vaccines, that would mean that we could vaccinate an additional 90 million people nationwide, which is nearly twice as many people as have been vaccinated to date since the first vaccines became available in December,” said Dr. Mossallam. (February 26, 2021 3:01 PM) Governor Gretchen Whitmer today announced a three-month extension for liquor licensees to renew their 2021 licenses. The annual license renewal expiration date will be extended from April 30 to July 30 this year to assist licensees who have been impacted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, by providing additional time to renew their licenses.  The governor’s action will be implemented by administrative order issued by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC). The license renewal extension will benefit approximately 19,000 licensees.    “Our bar and restaurant owners have made incredible sacrifices during this pandemic and they should not have the additional stress about renewing their liquor license by April 30 this year,” said Whitmer. “We want to ease the burden by extending the customary deadline so they can focus on getting back to business. My administration has also secured crucial support for these businesses through a bipartisan supplemental budget that I signed to provide greater financial relief for small business owners in our hospitality industry.”  Licensees are strongly encouraged to renew their license online to ensure timely processing of their renewal application and avoid any potential delays with mailing their renewed license. Licensees do not have to…
