Michigan Reports 5,177 Coronavirus Cases Today, State Total Now 665,948

(March 30, 2021 4:01 PM) Michigan reported 5,177 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 665,948. Michigan is reporting 48* COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 16,082. *The deaths announced today includes 20 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. See cumulative data page for more information. State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 3/27/21): 569,460. This information is updated Monday through Saturday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.  Monday reports include Sunday data.

I-94 Design-Build Project Update: Traffic Shifts on I-94 and US-127/M-50

(March 30, 2021 3:52 PM) Last week, crews continued building temporary shoulder widenings and the new westbound I-94 bridge over West Avenue. Clearing has also been occurring throughout the project. Additionally, crews tackled a large peat excavation and swamp backfill operation where the new westbound I-94 roadway will be near the US-127/M-50 interchange. During the coming weeks, the contractor will continue building the new bridge and begin temporary paving along eastbound I-94 and northbound US-127/M-50. Additionally, they will begin shifting traffic at the end of this week to build the median crossovers that will be used for future maintenance of traffic on I-94 and US-127/M-50. Traffic maintenance for this upcoming week will involve the northbound US-127/M-50 ramp to westbound I-94 being closed, as well as one lane closed on northbound US-127/M-50 from Sparks Street to Springport Road. Shoulder closures with a reduced speed zone will be in place along eastbound and westbound I-94 from Airport Road to Dettman Road. Expansions To Temporary State Unemployment Provisions End March 31

(March 30, 2021 3:23 PM) According to state law, some temporary expansions in unemployment eligibility and cost-sharing applicable to state unemployment claims are set to expire on March 31, 2021. Unemployment expansions expiring include: 28-day late filing A new or additional claim for unemployment benefits filed within 28 days of the last day the claimant worked will no longer be considered to have been filed on time. The late filing allowance will revert to the traditional 14 days. COVID related reasons for regular unemployment No longer considered an acceptable reason to have left work involuntarily for medical reasons are: The individual is under self-isolation or self-quarantine in response to elevated risk from COVID-19 due to being immune-compromised. The individual has displayed at least one of the principal symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, atypical coughs and atypical shortness of breath). The individual has had contact in the last 14 days with someone with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19. The individual is required to care for someone with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19. Student Athlete Testing Begins Friday; State to Offer Pop-Up Post-Spring Break Testing Sites

(March 30, 2021 3:07 PM) To help slow the spread of COVID-19 throughout Michigan, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is ramping up testing and urging Michiganders to continue mitigation practices that help slow the spread of the virus. “Now is the time for us all to come together and do what’s necessary to end this pandemic,” said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, chief medical executive and chief deputy for health. “We are making progress in the fight against the virus with more than 4 million doses administered and 2.6 million Michiganders having at least their first dose of the safe and effective COVD-19 vaccine. Jackson County Cumulative Report: 10,868 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 225 Deaths

(March 30, 2021 12:00 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 10,868 positive cases (cumulative), and 225 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 156 new cases and since yesterday’s report. Cumulative recovered, as of March 30: 9076** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 4:30 PM March 26, there are 5,095 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 620 confirmed positive staff cases.  MDOC positive case numbers are cumulative. As of 9 AM March 29,  there are 28 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. Note:  Jackson County will post COVID-19 data daily by mid-afternoon, Monday-Saturday, keeping with the schedule established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). By Jeff Steers JTV Sports The Western High School girls’ varsity basketball team has been wearing t-shirts with one simple saying on the back … “unfinished business.” That starts on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Panthers defeated Battle Creek Pennfield 50-29 in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 regional semifinal on Monday. They will face Lansing Catholic High School in the regional final tomorrow at Williamston High School beginning at 7 p.m. Western was scheduled to be in the regional final a year ago before COVID-19 restrictions cancelled the remainder of the season. The news came down about four hours before game time. “Our girls have been wearing a t-shirt that says unfinished business … that unfinished business starts Wednesday,” WHS Coach Gina Fortress said. “We have been shooting for Wednesday night for a long time.” Fortress said the team held out hope all last spring hoping to be able to play Marshall – an Interstate-8 Conference opponent they beat twice during the regular…
