Michigan Reports 8,704* Coronavirus Cases, State Total Now 1,039,337

(October 4, 2021 3:56 PM) Michigan reported 8,704* coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 1,039,337. Michigan is reporting 62** COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 21,139.    *Note on cases (10/04/2021): Today's daily case count represents new referrals of confirmed cases to the MDSS since the last web update report.  Over the three days (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday), the average number of new confirmed cases is ~2901 per day. **The deaths announced today includes 19 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. See cumulative data page for more information. State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 10/1/21): 931,115. Information is updated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.

Comics Go to College: Learn From Artist, Creator with New Series

(October 4, 2021 3:49 PM) Jackson College announced a set of events focused on the world of creating comics today,  Comics Go to College, a series of nine lectures with speaker Stephen R. Bissette, noted comics artist known for the “Swamp Thing” series from D.C. Comics. The series will be presented by Jackson College, Jackson District Library and Nostalgia Ink, and each session includes question and answer time with Bissette. Sessions will be offered free via Zoom to the community. Illustrating Regional Cryptozoological Lore, Wednesday, Oct. 13, 7 p.m. Explore an illustrated overview of various approaches to depicting cryptids (i.e. Big Foot, Yeti, Loch Ness Monster, etc.) via illustration. It will feature examples from the author’s own work with New England regional folklorist Joseph A. Citro (The Vermont Monster Guide). Jackson County Cumulative Report: 17,276 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 309 Deaths

(October 4, 2021 12:00 PM)  The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 17,276 positive cases (cumulative), and 309 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 143 new cases and 1 new death since Friday’s report. As of September 24, there are 20 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19.  Cumulative recovered, as of October 4: 15,692** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics. R.W. Mercer Co. acquires assets of West Michigan Electrical Systems R.W. Mercer Co. has acquired the assets of long-time subcontractor West Michigan Electrical Systems Inc., the companies announced. West Michigan Electrical Systems is a full-service electrical contractor located in Cedar Springs, north of Grand Rapids. It was founded by owner Brad Kober and has served petroleum, industrial and commercial customers for over 20 years. Kober and his team will be based out of R.W. Mercer’s Grand Rapids-area office in Walker. They will combine with the existing electrical team at R. W. Mercer to enhance its current capabilities and to expand the company’s ability to self-perform electrical services statewide for customers. Kober will be taking on the position of project manager in the R.W. Mercer Electrical Department. Andy Mercer, R.W.
