Vietnam War Commemoration Honoring Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 109. The Sarah Treat Prudden Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, in partnership with the Pvt Ephraim Wheaton Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution is hosting a community event to honor Jackson Michigan’s Vietnam Veterans and their friends and family. This event is a celebration of The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 109 which was the 2021 National Chapter of the Year! Please join us on March 29, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Village Hope Church (located at 123 W Porter Street, Jackson, MI 49201) the community is invited to come together to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of these amazing men and women. There will be community leaders and a variety of elected officials present as they present various awards and accolades to the VVA 109. Clergy will be present to offer prayer for the Veterans and their friends and families and the community. In an effort to never forget the service, and to train and educate the younger generation this event will have exhibits for all to peruse to increase knowledge and awareness of this unique segment of veterans. Michigan Reports 1,258* Coronavirus Cases, State Total Now 2,077,401

(March 28, 2022 6:15 PM) Michigan reported 1,575* coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 2,077,401. Michigan is reporting 6 COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 32,758. *Note on cases (03/28/2022): Today's daily case count represents new referrals of confirmed cases to the MDSS since the last web update report. Over the three days (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday), the average number of new confirmed cases is ~420 per day. Information is updated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m. The MDHHS today announced that starting the week of April 4, 2022, data will be updated in the following way: Case and death data will be updated once per week on Wednesdays. Case and death data will be inclusive of both confirmed and probable cases and deaths. The cumulative county COVID-19 case rate map wil be replaced with a map of the CDC COVID-19 community levels and will be refreshed on Fridays.

Jackson County Cumulative Report: 39,310 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 548 Deaths

(March 28, 2022 3:19 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County. As of 12:00 PM today, there are 39,310 positive cases (cumulative), and 548 deaths (cumulative)*. There are 17 new cases since Friday’s report. The Jackson County Health Department has announced a change in reporting effective Oct. 6, 2021. Cases defined as probable will be reported in cumulative case and death counts. As additional methods of testing besides the PCR test have become more common, the amount of cases classified as probable has increased and are included to provide a more accurate picture of disease in our community. Cumulative recovered, as of March 28: 38,492** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Recovered numbers are being posted as received. *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections. Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics. Michigan Center, Columbia Central and JPEC Make Moves as New MHSAA Classifications Announced

(March 28, 2022 11:03 AM) Classifications for Michigan High School Athletic Association elections and postseason tournaments for the 2022-23 school year have been announced, with enrollment breaks for postseason tournaments posted to each sport’s page on the MHSAA Website. Classifications for the upcoming school year are based on a second semester count date, which for MHSAA purposes was Feb. 9. The enrollment figure submitted for athletic classification purposes may be different from the count submitted for school aid purposes, as it does not include students ineligible for athletic competition because they reached their 19th birthday prior to September 1 of the current school year and will not include alternative education students if none are allowed athletic eligibility by the local school district. All sports’ tournaments are conducted with schools assigned to equal or nearly equal divisions, with lines dependent on how many schools participate in those respective sports. For 2022-23, there are 750 tournament-qualified member schools. Schools recently were notified of their classification, and sport-by-sport divisions were posted to the MHSAA Website today (March 28). Jackson District Library Purchases Senior Center, Plans to Move Spring Arbor Branch

(March 28, 2022 10:37 AM) Jackson District Library officials today announced the purchase of the former Spring Arbor Senior Center from Spring Arbor Township and plan to move the current library branch to the site and open sometime in 2023. Library officials closed on the property Wednesday, March 23, and paid $400,000 for the parcel, which will expand the library's footprint and allow for more material and more meeting spaces, JDL officials said. "We've always appreciated our relationship with the township and the Spring Arbor community as a whole, and we're excited to bring the area the library services it deserves," JDL Director Sara Tackett said. The Spring Arbor Branch of the library is currently located on the south-side of the township maintenance garage at 113 East Main Street. The former senior center is located at 122 Star Road in Spring Arbor, within walking distance of the library's current location. The current branch is 1,845 square feet while the new building is roughly 5,000 square feet. Stuard finishes tied for seventh at PGA Tour event (March 27, 2022 7:52 PM) The solid play continues for Jackson native Brian Stuard on the PGA Tour. Stuard tied for seventh Sunday at the Corales Puntacana Championship in the PGA Tour golf event. He finished with rounds of 70, 68, 69, and 68, finishing 13-under par for the week. Stuard earns more than $110,000 for his finish and moves up 15 spots on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Series points. Stuard is 101st on the series points list. The top 125 at the end of the 2021-2022 season earn playing privileges on the tour for the 2022-2023 season. Stuard has finished in the top 25 four of his last five tournaments. His tie for seventh place at the Corales event is his best of the 2021-2022 season. He is entered in the Valero Texas Open near San Antonio this week on the PGA Tour.
