Michigan Reports 1,575* Coronavirus Cases, State Total Now 2,076,143

(March 25, 2022 6:15 PM)  Michigan reported 1,575* coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 2,076,143. Michigan is reporting 38** COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 32,752.   *Note on cases (03/25/2022): Today's daily case count represents new referrals of confirmed cases to the MDSS since the last web update report.  Over the two days (Thursday and Friday), the average number of new confirmed cases is ~788 per day. **The deaths announced today includes 39 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. See cumulative data page for more information. Of note, the daily number of deaths in confirmed cases is one fewer than the number identified by vital records review. This is due to corrections being made to previously reported deaths during ongoing data quality and cleaning efforts by public health to ensure the accuracy of death data. Information is updated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.

Swarts Wins 60th National Racewalk Title, Heading to Finland

(March 25, 2022 2:38 PM) Jackson racewalker David Swarts, 56, recently competed in the USA Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships in New York City, winning two gold medals in the male 55 division on March 18 and 19. Swarts’ victories in the mile (7 minutes, 17.90 seconds) and 3,000-meter (14:15.83) racewalks were his 59th and 60th USA Masters titles since 2011 and currently ranks him Nos. 1 and 2 in the world for his age at those distances. Swarts, a 1983 Jackson High School graduate, will be competing for Team USA at this summer’s World Masters Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland. A veteran of two indoor and four outdoor World Championships, Swarts won bronze medals in the 5,000-meter and 10k racewalks in France (2015), bronze in the 5,000 in Australia (2016), and has three team silver medals. Jackson County Cumulative Report: 39,293 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 548 Deaths

(March 25, 2022 2:28 PM)  The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 39,293 positive cases (cumulative), and 548 deaths (cumulative)*.   There are 11 new cases and 1 new death since yesterday’s report.  The Jackson County Health Department has announced a change in reporting effective Oct. 6, 2021.  Cases defined as probable will be reported in cumulative case and death counts.  As additional methods of testing besides the PCR test have become more common, the amount of cases classified as probable has increased and are included to provide a more accurate picture of disease in our community.  Cumulative recovered, as of March 25:  38,436** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics. JTV file photo:  Nathaniel Hobbs competes in the 2021 Selby Track Meet. He finished first in the 400-meter run at the Southeastern Conference Invitational at Ypsilanti Thursday.  SEC Track and Field Invitational: Nathan Hobbs of Jackson High School won the 400-meter dash at the Southeastern Conference Invitational at Ypsilanti. Hobbs won the event in 51.46 seconds for Jackson. Keiyera Johnson of Jackson finished second in the girls’ 60 yard hurdles in 10.33 seconds. Jackson medaled in the 400-meter relay in 1:53 with a team of Dezstiny Davis, D’Arie Pierce, Johnson, and Kayla Johnson finishing fourth.
