JTV photo. (May 10, 2022 5:02 PM) Six individuals and one organization were honored last week at the Center for Family Health's eighth annual Advocacy Awards event. The event was held at the Cascades Manor House in Jackson. Honorees include community leaders, dedicated citizens, and CFH staff members who demonstrate outstanding commitment to health care advocacy and social justice. “This is an annual event that we look forward to”, said Terry Langston, Director of Communications and Advocacy. “We appreciate the work that community members and our staff do to help make health care more accessible. The individuals being recognized this year do just that.” This year’s winners include: Denny Litos, formerly with the Michigan Primary Care Association was awarded the Georgia Fojtasek Health Advocacy Award in honor for his tireless advocacy efforts to safeguard Medicaid, the 340B pharmacy program and community health centers throughout Michigan. The Wellness Team of First United Methodist Church has been awarded the Corporate or Organizational Health Advocacy Award for their efforts…

Seymour Road to Close for Culvert Construction

(May 10, 2022 3:17 PM) The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close Seymour Road for culvert construction. This work is part of MDOT's ongoing $120 million investment to rebuild and widen I-94 near the Airport Road interchange to just west of the east US-127/I-94 interchange in Blackman and Leoni Township. The I-94 project involves upgrading the US-127/M-50 (West Avenue)/I-94 interchange to a diverging diamond interchange, the Elm Road interchange with roundabouts, and the Lansing Avenue bridge over I-94. The closure will begin at 6 AM on Friday, May 13, and last until Saturday, May 14 at 6 PM. Eastbound Seymour Road traffic will be detoured north along Elm Road and east along O’leary Road. Westbound Seymour Road will follow O’leary Road to Elm Road and south to Seymour Road. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained. The closure will be just east of the driveway to Art Moehn Chevrolet. Access to residences and all other businesses will be along Seymour Road from the east. Motorists should expect delays.
