Jackson County Cumulative Report: 40,321 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 558 Deaths
(May 11, 2022 12:00 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County. As of 12:00 PM today, there are 40,321 positive cases (cumulative), and 558 deaths (cumulative)*. There are 309 new cases and 2 new deaths since last Wednesday’s report. The next report will be on May 18. The Jackson County Health Department has announced a change in reporting effective Oct. 6, 2021. Cases defined as probable will be reported in cumulative case and death counts. As additional methods of testing besides the PCR test have become more common, the amount of cases classified as probable has increased and are included to provide a more accurate picture of disease in our community. Cumulative recovered, as of May 11: 38,835** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Recovered numbers are being posted as received. *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections. Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics. Baseball Dundee 9, Columbia Central 1: Ryan Whipple had two of the Golden Eagles’ four hits in the contest. Dundee 6, Columbia Central 2: Dundee scored four times in the fifth inning to break open a tied game. Tyler Ladd had a hit and an RBI for CCHS (3-16). Grass Lake 2, Addison 1: Jacob Collins had a hit and an RBI for Grass Lake. Blake Stark earned the win for Grass Lake with six strikeouts. Union City 10, Concord 3: Logan Lamb had two hits and all three RBIs for Concord. Union City 7, Concord 5: Levi Raymond had two hits and knocked in two runs for Concord (8-11). Tyler Carpenter, Timar Spratley, and Dustin Hamilton all had two hits for Concord. Lumen Christi 3, Northwest 2: Lumen Christi scored all three runs in the second inning. Connor Dancer had two hits for the Mounties. Easton Neitzke had two runs in three at bats for Northwest. The two teams tied 5-5 after nine innings. The Jackson Law Enforcement Memorial. 12 PM. TRUE Community City Square. This will be the first in-person memorial since 2019. The 2020 and 2021 public tributes were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of National Police Week, this annual event pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. This year’s memorial is organized by the Jackson Police Department Honor Guard. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police Jackson Post, and the Blackman-Leoni Township Department of Public Safety are also participating. Law enforcement leaders from Jackson County will give remarks, with Undersheriff Chris Simpson delivering the keynote address. The names of Jackson County officers killed on the job will be read during the “Roll Call of Heroes”, followed by a gun salute and taps. Horace Blackman Park, Downtown Jackson.
