By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (June 10, 2022 9:05 PM) Jackson area resident Nick Reynolds said if there is one Jackson County tournament that he would love to win, the City Championship is it. Reynolds is 36 holes away from winning his ultimate prize.  The Jackson City Golf Championship medalist defeated Pete Walz 4-3 to advance to the 36-hole final on Saturday at the Country Club of Jackson. Zach DeFrain defeated Cannon Risner by the same score in the other city championship semifinal on Friday in match play.  Reynolds moved back to Jackson from Portland nearly a year to the day and has caught “lightning in a bottle.” “I don’t remember when I played so well for a week,” Reynolds said. “I had eight birdies during qualifying – a 4-under-par 68 – and have scored five or six birdies in each of my matches.” Reynolds said he put a new putter in his bag last week and the change is playing off. Cascades Conference to Expand

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (UPDATED June 10, 2022 8:33 PM)   Columbia Central High School Athletic Director Ryan Hackworth has confirmed that CCHS will become a member of the Cascades Conference – pending a yes vote by the school board on Monday. The Golden Eagles were members of an eight-team Cascades Conference from 1968 to 1982. CCHS played in a Cascades Conference Red – with four or less teams – until 1995. The Golden Eagles were independent for two years before joining the Lenawee County Athletic Association for three years, the Tri-River Athletic Conference for four years, the Southern Michigan Activities Association for seven years, then back to the LCAA for the next 11 seasons. Hackworth said if the conference switch is approved, CCHS would join the Cascades Conference in the 2023-2024 sports season. The superintendents of the Cascades Conference have approved both Leslie and Columbia Central to join the Cascades Conference, according to Hackworth. Both schools need to accept the invitation through their school boards.
