(UPDATED June 10, 2022 8:33 PM)   Columbia Central High School Athletic Director Ryan Hackworth has confirmed that CCHS will become a member of the Cascades Conference – pending a yes vote by the school board on Monday.

The Golden Eagles were members of an eight-team Cascades Conference from 1968 to 1982. CCHS played in a Cascades Conference Red – with four or less teams – until 1995. The Golden Eagles were independent for two years before joining the Lenawee County Athletic Association for three years, the Tri-River Athletic Conference for four years, the Southern Michigan Activities Association for seven years, then back to the LCAA for the next 11 seasons.

Hackworth said if the conference switch is approved, CCHS would join the Cascades Conference in the 2023-2024 sports season.

The superintendents of the Cascades Conference have approved both Leslie and Columbia Central to join the Cascades Conference, according to Hackworth. Both schools need to accept the invitation through their school boards.
