City of Jackson Receives $16.5 Million from State for Water Infrastructure Improvements

(November 3, 2022 8:38 AM) The City of Jackson today announced it has received a $16.5 million funding allocation towards improvements of Jackson’s water infrastructure. The total fund amount comes from a mix of American Rescue Plan funds, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funds and a Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan. Plans call for using $9 million of the funding for lead service line replacements. With the City working toward replacing more than 11,000 service lines over the next 30 years, the funding will help accelerate the replacement effort and lower the overall cost burden on the City. City administration has set aside the remaining $7.5 million for water main replacements and improvements to Jackson’s water treatment and wastewater systems. The majority of the funds come from grants, meaning the City is only responsible for paying back a $4.1 million low-interest loan over 20 years. The City of Jackson qualified for these infrastructure funds due to its status as a disadvantaged community with a large number of lead service lines. Volleyball District Tournaments Division 3 at Addison High School Hudson 3, Columbia Central 1: The Golden Eagles got rolling in game two with a 25-12 win, but fell to Lenawee County Athletic Association foes in games three and four. Hudson won 25-21, 12-25, 25-22, and 25-21. Allie Jarchow led CCHS with 12 kills and 10 blocks, Ava Lyke finished with 32 digs, and Berlynn Lake finished with 36 assists. Columbia Central finishes the season with a 27-12-3 overall record. Napoleon 3, Manchester 2: Napoleon High School had lost to Manchester twice during the regular season. But when it was win or go home, the Pirates responded with a 3-2 win in the Division 3 district semifinal at Addison High School. The Pirates won 26-24, 25-27, 25-23, 22-25, and 15-11. “We had a lot of girls step up tonight when we needed them,” NHS Coach Sallie Raftery said. “Gracie Tallman was a huge presence at the net all night.” Maggie Beer led the Pirates with 16 kills, Alyssa Budd finished with 35 digs, Momo Hampton finished with 33 assists, and Tallman recorded eight blocks. The Jackson Percussion Concussion. 7:30 PM. Potter Center Music Hall, Jackson College. The Jackson College Drumline joins the Detroit Lions Drumline and local high school drumlines for this rhythmic extravaganza! Performing will be drumlines from East Jackson, Jackson, Lumen Christi, Mason, Michigan Center, Napoleon, Northwest, Springport and Western high schools. Lions Drumline members will provide tips in advance of the performance, then all members will perform on the Potter Center's stage! Get ready for a fun-filled evening of rhythms, showmanship, and fun at this year's Percussion Concussion! Tickets are $10 and will be available from the Potter Center Box Office or at the door. There will be T-shirts available for $15 or two for $25 at the event. Friends of the Eastern Branch Fall Book Sale.
