JAG Looks to Continue Recent Success in Gymnastics

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (November 27, 2022 8:00 AM) A couple of times a year Napoleon High School athlete Alyssa Budd faces her gymnastics teammates on opposite ends of sporting events. Each time Budd and her teammates from Jackson Area Gymnastics face off, win or lose they shake hands and walk away as friends. Budd if part of a cooperative of gymnasts from Jackson, Lumen Christi, Napoleon, Grass Lake, Northwest, and Concord.  JAG has enjoyed success finishing eighth in the state in 2022 and winning the first state title in gymnastics in 2021.  “There is no drama on this team,” Budd said of the dozen or so gymnastics on the co-op team.  Budd - who plans to compete in six sports this season including volleyball, basketball, powerlifting, gymnastics, track and field and softball - has been one of the stars on JAG. She has won half a dozen all-state medals over the years including finishing fourth in the floor exercise (9.625), 10th in the vault (9.225), and 10th in the all-around (36.1) in 2022.  Fellow senior Jenna Bradley from Lumen…

Football  MHSAA State Final Division 7 at Ford Field Lumen Christi 15, Traverse City St. Francis 12: The thought of going 11-3 for the 2022 season was probably a pipe dream for Lumen Christi Catholic High School in early September after an 0-3 start. But leaders on the Titans’ team believed and made it happen with a fourth quarter comeback for the ages. Trailing 12-0 at the end of the third quarter, LCCHS scored twice in the final 11:10 to pull out the win in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 7 football final at Ford Field on Saturday. The state championship is the 12th for Lumen Christi and 10th for head Coach Herb Brogan. Now with 10 state titles as a head coach, Brogan joins Detroit Catholic Central High School Coach Tom Mach and Mendon High School Coach John Schwartz. Extreme Dodge Jackson County Scoreboard November 25, 2022

Easton Craig earned the shutout in goal for Jackson United with 31 saves in a 5-0 win over Muskegon Reeths-Puffer.   Photo by Jeff Steers, JTV Sports. Hockey Jackson United 5, Muskegon Reeths-Puffer 0: Jackson United recorded its second consecutive shutout with a win in the Thanksgiving Showcase at Arrington Ice Arena in Adrian. Michigan Center freshman Brenna Forward scored two goals and added a pair of assists in the win for JU. Jack Whyte, Easton Neitzke, and Maddox Grimes added goals for Jackson. Easton Craig earned the shutout in goal for Jackson United with 31 saves. Jackson United (2-0) finished with 44 shots on the night.  On Deck for Nov. 26, 2022 Football  MHSAA State Final Division 7 at Ford Field Traverse City St. Francis vs. Lumen Christi 10 a.m.  Hockey Manistique at Jackson United (Optimist) 2:30 p.m.
