MDOT and JCDOT Closures and Detours This Week

MDOT file photo. (September 17, 2023 9:01 PM ET) The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close the ramp from northbound US-127 to westbound I-94 for pavement repairs. The closure will be in effect from 9 AM to 3 PM Monday, September 18. Traffic will be detoured via Michigan Avenue and M-50/West Avenue. This work is part of MDOT's ongoing $120 million investment to rebuild and widen I-94 near the Airport Road interchange to just west of the east US-127/I-94 interchange in Blackman and Leoni townships. The I-94 project includes upgrading the US-127/M-50 (West Avenue)/I-94 interchange to a diverging diamond interchange, the Elm Road interchange with roundabouts, and the Lansing Avenue bridge over I-94. On Tuesday, MDOT will close the Sandstone Road bridge over I-94 and the Michigan Avenue bridge over I-94 in Jackson for maintenance. This work is part of the I-94 Jackson project rebuilding nearly 13 miles of I-94 in Jackson, Albion, and Parma in Jackson County. Country Club of Jackson Hosting GAM Four-Ball Championship Monday

Hole #17 at the Country Club of Jackson. (September 17, 2023 9:23 PM ET) The Country Club of Jackson will welcome many of the top golfers in the state for the 10th Golf Association of Michigan Four-Ball Championship presented by BOYNE Golf Monday, Sept. 18.    A field of 70 two-golfer teams with combined GAM/USGA Handicap Indexes under 10.8 will compete in the 18-hole best-ball competition.    Country Club of Jackson, which dates to 1898 and was officially founded as a golf club in 1926, features an original 18 holes designed by Arthur Hamm, who worked as a field supervisor of legend Donald Ross. It also has nine additional holes designed by Arthur Hills and those holes opened in 1992.    The rich tournament tradition of the club includes hosting seven Michigan Amateur championships with the most recent one in 2002. Michigan Golf Hall of Fame legends Chuck Kocsis and Glenn Johnson were state champions at CC of Jackson. The Michigan Women’s Amateur, the GAM Championship and several other tournaments have been hosted by the club over the years, which has also hosted the GAM Four-Ball Championship previously as well, the most recent being the 2021 tournament.    Dave Hill,…

Hanson Inducted Into Jackson Golf Hall of Fame Sunday

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (September 17, 2023 8:30 PM ET) Nearly a month ago Jackson Golf Committee member Elaine Crosby called Doug Hanson informing him the committee selected him as the newest member of the Jackson Golf Hall of Fame. Hanson had knee replacement surgery two days before that. The call made the longtime golf professional feel better. Sunday he walked up to the podium and thanked those who helped him achieve the award.  Hanson has been a PGA professional for 44 years, the last 30 in Jackson. He has provided instruction to golfers ranging from PGA Tour players to beginners. “I found my niche in teaching golf … especially kids,” Hanson said in his speech. “I will be doing it until my last breath.” He has been a teaching pro at Lakeland Hills Golf Course, Bobick’s Golf, and Cascades Golf Course. Previously he was the head professional at Mt. Pleasant County Club and Duck Lake Country Club. Hanson was also an assistant pro at Arbor Hills Country Club. Which is where Hanson got his start.
