Jets basketball players net honors from MCCAA

  The Michigan Community College Athletic Association has announced Western Conference player awards for the 2015-16 basketball season. Congratulations to those being recognized! For the Jackson College Jets men, those honored include: Tarae Potter, guard, All Region, All-MCCAA, First Team All-Conference, All-Freshman Team, Freshman Player of Year. Potter is a freshman who graduated from Jackson High School. Charles Lawler, forward, Second Team All-Conference. Lawler is a sophomore who graduated from Albion High School. Eldridge Mason, forward, Honorable Mention All-Conference. Mason is a sophomore who graduated from Lathrup High School in Southfield. Matt Bullinger, forward, Honorable Mention All-Conference. Bullinger is a sophomore who graduated from Lumen Christi High School in Jackson. For the Jackson College Jets women, those honored include: Chelsy Hall, guard/forward, Second Team All-Conference. Hall is a sophomore and graduate of Jackson High School. Kennedi Showerman, forward, Third Team All-Conference. Showerman is a sophomore and graduate of Vandercook Lake High School.

Spring Arbor assistant coach Eric Salley named head men’s soccer coach at Trinity Christian

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – After serving as an assistant coach for Spring Arbor University men’s soccer the past three seasons, Eric Salley has been named the new head men’s soccer coach at Trinity Christian College.   “I am very thankful to Nate for his mentorship and the opportunity he gave me to begin my coaching career,” said Salley. “I can’t put into words how much he has taught me and helped me over the years. I have enjoyed my time working with the team and wish them the best as they continue to move forward. I am very excited about the opportunity I have been given at Trinity Christian, and I am looking forward to getting started with the team.”   Trinity Christian, an NAIA institution and member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC), is located in Palos Heights, Illinois. The Trolls posted a 2-16 record last season, which included a 1-11 mark in the CCAC.   Salley has served in all facets of the SAU program from game strategy, recruiting and fitness and conditioning. Energy efficiency projects net MIS incentive check from Consumers Energy

Energy Company rewards the track for becoming more energy efficient PHOTO: Consumers Energy Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Garrick Rochow presents Michigan International Speedway President Roger Curtis an energy efficiency incentive check at the speedway.  Photo courtesy of Consumers Energy BROOKLYN, Mich — Consumers Energy is supporting the efforts of Michigan International Speedway to be the “greenest” NASCAR track in the country with a $29,460 energy efficiency incentive check. “We applaud MIS for completing projects that help them do business sustainably in Michigan,” said Garrick Rochow, Consumers Energy’s vice president and chief customer officer. “In addition to their projects qualifying for an incentive check from us and saving the speedway $60,835 in annual natural gas, electricity and maintenance costs, the projects equate to avoiding enough carbon to equal planting 796 trees each year.” MIS earned the incentive by completing lighting projects and for a building automation system upgrade in 2015. They changed to energy-efficient LED lighting in their tunnel and for the exterior of the Administration building. Spring Arbor’s Joshua Smith captures All-American honors at NAIA Indoor Championships

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Spring Arbor University’s Joshua Smith (Sterling Heights, MI / Sterling Heights) capped off his spectacular freshman indoor season by earning All-American honors on the final day of the 2016 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships.   Smith punched his ticket to the 60 meter hurdles finals by posting the fourth-fastest qualifying time on Friday, clocking in at a personal-best, and school record, 8.22. In the finals, the Sterling Heights, Michigan native finished in seventh place with a time of 8.30.   “Smith powered through the finals to claim seventh place in the nation, an amazing freshman accomplishment,” said head coach Jeremy Smith. “Lord willing, Josh has an incredible career and witness ahead of him at SAU.”   All-American honors were given to the top eight individuals from each event and all four runners in the top eight relays. With his finish, Smith becomes the first Cougar to capture All-American honors since the 2013 championship meet when Nathan Martin, Kyle Anderson, Jeremy Rogers and Carissa Hudson all earned the distinction.   The meet signaled the end of the men’s and women’s indoor season.
