Baseball Hudson 13, Columbia Central 2: Ethan Stewart and Cameron Adams had two hits apiece for Columbia Central.  Hudson 10, Columbia Central 0: Cameron Adams recorded two of the three hits for CCHS in the loss. The Golden Eagles are 2-6 this season.  Hanover-Horton 14, Lenawee Christian 2: Hunter Fox had three hits and knocked in three runs for the Comets. Layne Holda earned the pitching win for Hanover-Horton, striking out eight batters. The Comets scored eight runs in the second inning to pull ahead.  Hanover-Horton 12, Lenawee Christian 4: The Comets scored all 12 runs in the first two innings of the game. Travis Drennan knocked in a pair of runs for Hanover-Horton (5-1).  Softball Hudson 10, Columbia Central 4:  Gracie Keller had two hits for the Golden Eagles in the home loss.  Columbia Central 18, Hudson 12: Micaella Fall knocked in nine runs with a home run, two doubles, and a triple for the Golden Eagles. Abby Keller had two hits and knocked in six runs for the Golden Eagles. Governor Whitmer Announces Additional Food Assistance Dollars for April

(April 19, 2022 5:05 PM) Governor Whitmer today announced all Michigan families who are eligible for food assistance benefits will continue to receive at least an additional $95 monthly payment in April.  The additional assistance will help approximately 1.31 million Michiganders in more than 700,000 households.  In April 2020, some Michigan residents began receiving additional food assistance under this program. In May 2021, all eligible households began getting extra monthly benefits. Federal approval is necessary every month.    Eligible clients will see additional food assistance benefits on their Bridge Card from April 16 - 25. These benefits will be loaded onto Bridge Cards as a separate payment from the assistance that is provided earlier in the month.  All households eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) receive an increase of at least $95 monthly, even if they are already receiving the maximum payment or are close to that amount. Households that received over $95 to bring them to the maximum payment for their group size will continue to receive that larger amount.    Below are the maximum allowable benefits for SNAP customers based on their respective household size:   One Person: $250  Two Persons: $459  Three Persons: $658  Four Persons: $835  Five…

I-94 Design-Build Project Update

Work on West Avenue and the I-94 interchange.  MDOT photo. (April 19, 2022 4:42 PM) Michigan Department of Transportation today issued the following update on the I-94 Design-Build project: With warmer spring weather on the horizon, the contractor is gearing up to resume work throughout the I-94 corridor. Over the next several weeks, the contractor will complete work on the bridge carrying Lansing Avenue over I-94 and the bridge carrying eastbound I-94 over US-127/West Avenue. Concrete paving will resume on eastbound I-94 between Airport Road and M-106 (Cooper Street). Concrete paving will begin on the west half of the new diverging diamond interchange at I-94/US-127/West Avenue. The contractor will also continue work to build the relocated Elm Road interchange and complete the new Elm Road bridge over I-94. It is anticipated that I-94 traffic will be maintained in its current configuration over the next few months with all lanes of traffic shifted to the westbound roadway. Simpson Replaces Mathein on Jackson College Board

(April 19, 2022 4:33 PM) At a special board meeting on Monday, April 18, the Jackson College Board of Trustees selected Christopher Simpson to fill the open seat vacancy following the retirement of Dr. Edward Mathein.   After serving as Trustee since 1998, Mathein announced his retirement at last week’s regular board meeting. Simpson, currently the undersheriff for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, will fill the remainder of Mathein’s term through the end of 2022. Dr. Mathein has served as a Jackson College Trustee with distinction since 1998 and was Board Chair from 2008-2012. Additionally, he has represented Jackson College on the Michigan Community College Association Board since 2008 and was the MCCA State Treasurer from 2008-2012.  For his notable service contributions, he received the Ethelene Jones Crockett Distinguished Alumni Award from the College in 1996; he was nominated for Jackson Citizen of the Year also in 1996; and received both the Jackson Host Lions Distinguished Service award for 2010-2011, and Lion of the Year award for the Central District in 2017. Girls soccer Bronson 2, Jackson Christian 0: Bronson High School scored twice in the final 5:01 of the game to earn the win. Jackson Christian had a number of chances to score but missed on a penalty pick with 20 minutes remaining in the game and on a breakaway in the waning seconds of the game.
